Nintendo and Game Freak have dropped a new trailer for the highly-anticipated Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, this year's entry in the long-running mainline Pokemon series. Before last week, fans had to mine every millisecond of the game's reveal trailer to learn more about Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's region, monsters, and protagonists. With this new trailer, however, the information is a lot more obvious, with two new professors being detailed, the three new starters getting a closer look, and a few new Pokemon having their moment in the spotlight.

After the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet trailer went live, Game Freak added some more information to the game's official website. Along with information on the game's new characters and new open-world mechanics, the website now has an entire section dedicated to the new Pokemon revealed in the latest trailer, with each one receiving a brief Pokedex-like entry, detailing some stats, and some interesting tidbits about their personality and moveset. While the details provided in these Pokedex entries are likely to change a little before Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's final release, these descriptions do give a good introduction to the Pokemon fans will soon meet.

Sprigatito

Sprigatito is this game's Grass-type Pokemon. Taking on the appearance of an adorable cat, Sprigatito is just 1'4" in height, and weighs only 9lbs, according to the current Pokedex entry. Being a Grass-type starter, Sprigatito shares the same Overgrow Ability that all Grass-type starters have had since Gen 3.

Despite its cute demeanor, Sprigatito is apparently quite an attention-seeking Pokemon, who is often seen to become agitated when its trainer spends time with other Pokemon. Sprigatito is capable of releasing an intoxicating aroma when it kneads its paws, leading to opponent Pokemon becoming mesmerized, and being unable to battle. Sprigatito's fur is also made from a plant-like substance, allowing the Pokemon to absorb sunlight, and photosynthesize it into energy.

Fuecoco

The chunky crocodile Fire-type starter, Fuecoco has its eyes set on one thing, and one thing only: food. Apparently, Fuecoco has such an obsession with food, that the moment it's let loose, it'll make an immediate dash for the nearest food source. Aside from a love for eating, Fuecoco is a pretty chill Pokemon, with a laid-back sensibility.

Much like every other Fire-type starter from Gen 3 onwards, Fuecoco has an inherent Blaze ability which, like Sprigatito's Overgrow, gives the Pokemon a 50% boost to Fire-type attacks in a pinch. While Fuecoco is the same height as Sprigatito, it's on the heavier side, coming in at a hefty 21.6lbs.

The small square scales on Fuecoco's stomach and back are capable of absorbing and storing heat. When enough heat has been absorbed, Fuecoco's scales glow a burning yellow color, and can convert the heat into fire energy, which it can presumably unleash upon its opponent. The small yellow tufts coming out of Fuecoco's head have a similar function, glowing yellow when the Pokemon is overflowing with fire energy.

Quaxly

The last of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's starters, Quaxly may just be the most well-mannered Pokemon of all time. According to its current Pokedex, Quaxly is a very loyal companion and likes to keep impeccably clean and tidy, which fans can surely see in the handsome duckling's glistening coat and head. Quaxly keeps its coat so clean by secreting a thin layer of gel that repels dirt and water.

Following Water-type starter tradition, and fitting right alongside Sprigatito and Fuecoco, Quaxly's inherent ability is Torrent, which increases Water-type moves by 50%. One of Quaxly's strengths is its incredibly powerful legs. This Pokemon can not only use its strong legs to propel itself through water, even against strong currents, but can also use them in battle, where it can often be seen unleashing a flurry of fast-paced kicks.

Pawmi

A mouse Pokemon that's sure to give Pikachu a run for its money, Pawmi is an adorable little Electric-type Pokemon. Weighing only 5.5lbs and standing just 1' tall, Pawmi is a tiny little furball, but just like some of the franchise's best monsters, it shouldn't be underestimated. With electricity-generating sacs on its cheeks, Pawmi is capable of delivering some truly shocking moves, after first rubbing its paws on its cheeks, and then touching the conductive paws to the ground or directly onto an opponent. Pawmi's fur is also conductive, making it one tricky little Pokemon.

Being one of Nemona's Pokemon, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's version of the "Rival" or friend character, players will likely come up against Pawmi at some point during the game's first few hours, perhaps during a friendly duel. Pawmi's has two abilities, the first of which is Natural Cure, which heals it of any status effects when it exits a battle, or swaps out mid-battle. Its second ability is Static, which gives a 30% chance to inflict the paralyzed status effect on an opponent with each hit it lands.

Lechonk

Another one of Nemona's Pokemon, Lechonk is the little pig that's hit the internet in a big way since its reveal. Lechonk is a pretty deceptive Pokemon, as behind its timid, frightened disposition is one incredibly tough beast. Packing a whopping 22.5lbs of pure muscle, Lechonk may look cute and round, but it's capable of dishing out some real damage if provoked.

Much like Fuecoco, Lechonk has an obsession with food, and has gained most of its muscle mass by walking around endlessly trying to find the richest berries and grasses. As the Pokemon has eaten so many rich foods, it now secretes an aroma that repels Bug-type Pokemon. Lechonk also has two abilities, those being Aroma Veil and Gluttony.

Smoliv

pokemon scarlet and violet smoliv

The last of Nemona's Pokemon, Smoliv is a tiny little monster in the shape of an olive, with leaves coming out of its head. This Grass/Normal-type Pokemon shoots a bitter oil out of its head when startled, staggering its opponent and slowing them down. In the wild, Smoliv uses this brief moment as a chance to escape. Smoliv uses the leaves on its head to absorb sunlight, which is then stores as energy. By doing this, Smoliv can go weeks without any food or water. Smoliv has just one ability, Early Bird, which halves the amount of turns the Pokemon is put to sleep for.

Koraidon and Miraidon

koraidon and miraidon

The recent trailer also revealed Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's two new legendaries, Koraidon and Miraidon. While the official website doesn't have much information about them at all, some investigative fans think they've determined what these new legendary Pokemon's deal is. With the Japanese word "karai" roughly translating to "ancient," and "mirai" meaning "future," it seems as though these two legendary Pokemon will represent the past and the future.

Both Koraidon and Miraidon's visual designs match up with this theory, as the former seems to be a fairly stoic, regal serpent/dragon, while the latter has electrical streaks across its body and has a pair of jet engines for legs. Players will be able to get their hands on Koraidon if they pick up Pokemon Scarlet, while Violet players will be able to catch Miraidon.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet launch November 18, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
