With Pokemon Scarlet and Violet getting a second trailer just a week ago, fans are now expecting more news to come over the summer months, which is usually when the reveal cycle is richer for Pokemon games that release during the Holiday Season. The June trailer for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, however, did include several new critters and showcased features like the multiplayer experience, which allows up to four trainers to explore the world together. Five new Gen 9 Pokemon were revealed in the trailer, with three of them being what look like critters from the early areas and two being the new box Legendaries.

A lot of Pokemon fans were immediately drawn towards Lechonk, a new hog Pokemon that likely has the most meme-friendly name in the whole franchise, but other big contenders were the Legendary Koraidon and Miraidon. Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are probably getting a lot more creatures and features than what has been shown thus far, but an interesting detail in Koraidon and Miraidon's aesthetic makes them great candidates for the evolution system introduced in Pokemon Sun and Moon. In fact, it's not far-fetched to think that Koraidon and Miraidon will evolve from a unique Pokemon.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's Legendaries Could Use Gen 7's Evolution System

The Gen 7 mascot Legendaries were Solgaleo and Lunala, respectively found in Pokemon Sun and Moon, and they were different from other Legendary Pokemon because they evolved from the same species. Solgaleo and Lunala were actually the third-stage evolutions of Cosmog, and they evolved into a different Legendary Pokemon based on the version that one would be playing. These Legendaries had similar characteristics and overall analogous aesthetic conventions, even though they were quite clearly their own creatures with separate types, abilities, and moves.

The same concept might be found in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet because of these reasons, considering that Koraidon and Miraidon have a lot in common, so much so that when they are put side by side in the trailer they have almost identical facial features. Their bodies are very different from one another, however, with Koraidon being more akin to ancient mythological creatures and Miraidon having metal parts and a more technological body overall, especially due to its jet engines.

And yet, Koraidon and Miraidon do have extremely similar faces, both with snake-like features and almost identical eyes, made unique solely by the fact that Koraidon's are organic and Miraidon's are not, with pixels forming its irises and pupils. Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's themes seem to heavily revolve around the past versus future comparison, which is particularly clear when looking at the Legendaries and when comparing Professor Sada and Professor Turo. If the resemblance between Koraidon and Miraidon is intentional, it's extremely probable that they will share a base-stage evolution or two.

These critters could behave similarly to Cosmog and Cosmoem, meaning that they embody the past versus future theme of Gen 9 with physical characteristics. If Koraidon and Miraidon do evolve from the same base critters, it's possible that this event will also be tied to the story of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, much like how it happened in Pokemon Sun and Moon with the whole narrative arc about Lillie and her Pokemon. Ultimately, there is a lot that Pokemon Scarlet and Violet could draw inspiration from when it comes to Solgaleo and Lunala and how unique their evolutions were, and it would be interesting to see Gen 9 take this direction.
