Since Pokemon Legends: Arceus just released this past January, it's safe to say that very few Pokemon fans were expecting the next games in the long-running franchise to be coming this year. To the surprise of many, Nintendo officially announced Pokemon Scarlet and Violet for release in 2022, unveiling the new games with a trailer that confirmed the starter Pokemon and some Pokemon returning from previous games.

The initial Pokemon Scarlet and Violet trailer also showed off the games' titles and logos, but stopped short of revealing their box art. For the most part, Pokemon game cover art shows off legendary Pokemon that players will be able to catch in those games, with each version usually offering an exclusive legendary. It's assumed that will hold true for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, but the legendaries have yet to be revealed.

While the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet legendary Pokemon have not been revealed at this time, there is a theory going around about what exactly their types will be. This theory is based on information shared by Riddler Khu, a reliable Pokemon insider who likes to tease fans with new information in the form of riddles, hence their nickname. Based on what Khu has teased so far, the consensus seems to be that the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet legendaries will be a dragon/fighting-type and a dragon/electric-type.

Of course, this information is unconfirmed and so fans should take it with a grain of salt. And while Riddler Khu has proven to be a reliable leaker in the past, it's always possible that fans are misinterpreting their hints. Luckily, if the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet release dates are in 2022 as previously announced, it's likely that fans will learn more information about each games' respective legendary Pokemon sooner rather than later.

Nintendo traditionally hosts a big Nintendo Direct event during E3, but E3 2022 is canceled. That doesn't mean that Nintendo won't have some kind of presentation lined up, though. Even with E3 canceled, other companies have still announced plans to host their own showcases separate from the big show, with a Microsoft & Bethesda showcase coming on June 12 and Blizzard hosting a special Overwatch 2 event on June 16. It's possible Nintendo will have a presentation of its own in June, though it could also be the case that fans have to wait a bit longer for the next Nintendo Direct and the chance to learn more about Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet will launch in 2022, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
