Fennkin was the Fire-type starter native to the Kalos Region from Pokemon X and Pokemon Y. When it reached its final evolution, Delphox, it became a dual type Fire/Psychic. It took some time, but now the Fennekin-line is compatible with Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet.

Unfortunately, Fennkin and its evolutions can't be found in the wild without Scarlet/Violet's expansion pass. Despite this, there are a few ways to go about getting a Fennkin onto a Pokemon Scarlet/Violet file. Thanks to Pokemon HOME compatibility, players may even be able to get a Fennekin at the start of their journey.

Updated on December 26, 2023 by Renri Seong: Starter Pokemon are common favorites in the Pokemon community, but getting them outside their "home game" can be tricky. Prior to the release of Pokemon Scarlet & Violet's part 2 of the expansion pass, the only way to get starter Pokemon was to battle their final evolved forms in Timed Raids/7-star Raids, or transfer them with Pokemon HOME. In the Indigo Disk, you can now catch all starters from Generations 1-8. Among these starter Pokemon is Fennekin, the Fire-starter of Gen 6. However, you won't find Fennekin on your first visit to Indigo Disk's Terarium. You'll need to put in some work to expand Fennekin's preferred Biome, which you can accomplish by completing Blueberry (Academy) Quests. The following guide has been updated to include how-to catch Fennekin in Indigo Disk.

Where to Find Fennekin in Indigo Disk

Savanna Biome

You can find Fennekin in the Savanna Biome of Terarium (Indigo Disk DLC). However, there's a catch: Fennekin will not spawn until you expand the Savanna Biome. To do this, you will need to donate 3000BP to the respective club using the computer in the League Club. The League Club features won't unlock until you've met Drayton.

While you can go to Terarium as soon as you finish the story quests ("Path of Legends," "Starfall Street," and "Victory Road") and defeat Kieran in the Kitakami/Teal Mask story, you won't be able to go into Blueberry Academy until completing "The Way Home" main quest . So you will want to make sure you are in the postgame if you're set on catching Fennekin in the wild.

The next step is to farm up some BP, or Blueberry Points. These are earned from completing Blueberry Quests (BBQs). You'll start out doing simple quests before moving onto the more challenging ones. You unlock BBQs after completing your first class in Terarium. You can check your BBQs by tapping right on the directional pad. Use L/R button to toggle between BBQs and Meal Effects.

Once you have 3000BP, go to the computer in the League Club, and choose to expand the Savanna Biome. Now you can find Fennekin in the western section of the Savanna Biome, specifically near the border separating Savanna and Canyon Biome.

Transferring with Pokemon HOME

Currently, Fennekin and its evolutions can be transferred from Pokemon GO, trade, or by breeding the Delphox from the temporary 7-star Tera Raid. While Fennekin doesn't roam about Paldea, it's possible that it could be included in the Teal Mask & Indigo Disk expansion pack. In Sword/Shield, the Expansion Pack introduced new Pokemon and brought back Pokemon from previous generations. Thus, it's very possible the same will apply to Scarlet/Violet's DLC.

For now, here's what players will need to do in order to get their own Fennkin:

Both Pokemon GO and Pokemon HOME are free to download on mobile devices, and the Switch for HOME. If players intend to fill out the Pokedex, then it's highly recommended to get Pokemon GO. Once you link your GO account to HOME, you can transfer Pokemon from GO to a console/mainline game any time you want, so long as you have Transfer Energy.

Fennekin is more likely to appear in the wild (on Pokemon GO) than its evolutions, who are usually Event or Raid-exclusive. As a Fire-type, Fennekin has a higher chance of appearing in the wild on sunny days. It's easier to catch Fennekin by first feeding it a Razz Berry and then throwing a Great Ball.

The next step is to transfer Fennekin to HOME. Here's what to do:

Tap the Poke Ball icon on the main screen.
Select Settings at the top-right corner of the screen.
Look for and select Connected Devices and Services.
Choose Pokemon HOME. If players have not done so yet, they will need to input their Pokemon HOME info to formally link their account.
Tap Send Pokemon. If players have enough GO Transport Energy, they will be able to make a Transfer. This Energy is determined by the Pokemon itself.
Tap Continue and then find Fennekin (or its evolutions).
Tap Next and then Transport.

Now, to get the Fennekin from HOME to Scarlet/Violet, follow these steps:

On the homescreen, open up Pokemon HOME.
Select the Pokemon GO icon to Receive Pokemon. These will be moved to the Basic Box or any other Box that has enough space.
Now, access Storage and select Scarlet/Violet from the list of Pokemon games.
Pick up the Fennekin from the Basic Box (left side of screen) and drag it to one of the PC Boxes in Scarlet/Violet (right side of screen).
Press + and choose to Save and Exit.
Exit out of HOME and open up Scarlet/Violet. Fennekin should appear in whichever PC Box it was stored in through HOME.

Spectrier is a Ghost-type Legendary that can be caught in The Indigo Disk DLC after getting a Spectrier Treat from Snacksworth.

Trade Pokemon

Players that have a Nintendo Online Membership can trade with others. Membership is 3.99 for a month and has an automatic renewal. This can be toggled by selecting the User Icon (top-left corner) in the Nintendo Switch EShop. Select Nintendo Switch Online, then choose Terminate Automatic Renewal under the Nintendo Switch Online Individual Membership.

To trade with someone in Scarlet/Violet:

Open the menu with X-button. Tap L-button to link online.
Form or Join a Group in the Union Circle with someone else, then Embark.
Once in the Union Circle, select Poke Portal and choose Link Trade. You can Search for a trade partner or Set Code/have the other person create a trade code to share with you.

Fennekin will evolve into Braixen at level 16. To evolve Braixen into Delphox, level it up to level 36. If you're catching the wild Fennekins in the Savanna Biome, it will be well-beyond its evolve-level. To trigger the evolution, level up Fennekin once to get Braixen, then once more to get Delphox. You can do this quickly by feeding it a Rare Candy or an Exp. Candy.
