Nintendo reveals that the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet box art monsters, Koraidon and Miraidon, are getting the ability to fly within The Indigo Disk DLC, but there is a catch. It's been a good year so far for Pokemon fans looking for new content and things to do for the Scarlet and Violet games. September saw the release of the first expansion called The Teal Mask, taking players to a new area called Kitakami. Featuring a new storyline to follow, players could also catch both new and returning Pokemon including the legendaries Ogerpon and the Loyal Three.

Unlike Pokemon Sword and Shield, players didn't have to wait long for the second DLC expansion as The Indigo Disk is set to launch on December 14, and it continues the story set forth in The Teal Mask. This time, players are heading to Blueberry Academy as an exchange student, and will be able to take part in a ton of different activities, like the BB League or take on a variety of new quests. New Legendaries as well as over 100 returning Pokemon are coming to the game, including all starter creatures from past generations from the core series and can be encountered in the Terarium. In addition to new content and things to do, The Indigo Disk is also giving the legendary monsters Koraidon and Miraidon a powerful new ability.

How to Unlock Fly in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet

In a quick update on the official Pokemon Scarlet and Violet website, the Legendary Pokemon Koraidon and Miraidon are getting the ability to fly. Nintendo went on to confirm that this move isn't temporary and can be made permanent to allow the creatures the ability to fly at any time throughout the open world of Paldea. However, the ability won't simply be handed out to players, as they'll not only need to make it to a certain point in the story, but they'll also need to complete the Elite Trial set by Amarys of the BB League Elite Four.

Reaction to the announcement has been largely positive, with many wondering why this permanent upgrade wasn't a bigger focus of the marketing. Others had a more cynical approaching with one user saying this would have been really handy to have before the end of the game's lifecycle, while others took the opportunity to wonder if this new mechanic would cause more technical issues for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet during use. Some theorized that flying high enough may stop Pokemon from rendering below, which may help the frame rate stay consistent.

Unfortunately, one of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's biggest flaws has not been addressed since the base game launched late in 2022. Performance and technical issues have been a constant source of frustration for players, including poor texture quality, rendering and pop-in issues, framerate drops, and more. These technical issues carried over into The Teal Mask and many fans believe the same will be true for The Indigo Disk as well.
