Pokemon Rumble was a classic in the Wii, 3DS, and Wii U era of gaming and it looks like players who enjoyed that art style and those RPG brawler mechanics will soon be in for a pleasant surprise. Pokeland is an upcoming iOS and Android app and the announcement assets definitely seem more inspired by Pokemon Rumble than any other entry in the franchise.

The announcement of the free-to-play Pokeland app comes just a few days after the launch of Magikarp Jump, so Nintendo is definitely still looking to recreate that worldwide buzz that existed for the first few months of Pokemon GO (which may make a comeback when legendaries arrive this summer).

Here's a look at one of the announcement tweets from the Pokeland twitter account...

One perk to Pokeland is that the app will allow users to link the game to their Nintendo account. We're not sure exactly what functionality this will add just yet, but it seems likely that the Mii characters associated with the Nintendo account will somehow be usable in Pokeland.

There is no release date yet, but an alpha test is currently underway for Android users in Japan. This round of testing is scheduled to wrap up on June 9.

What do you think of the first look at the Pokeland app? Do you think the market is getting oversaturated with Nintendo apps or are you still excited to see new ones on the way? Let us know in the comments.

Pokeland currently does not have a confirmed release date. Check back for updates.
