A talented Pokemon fan has created and shared pixel art online of several of the Gen 1 critters with the Poison-typing. The first generation of games, which included Red, Blue, Green, and Yellow, are some of the most beloved in the franchise’s long history and often remind fans of a simpler time without the many mechanics that can be found in Pokemon games today. It is so highly regarded that Nintendo released the Pokemon Fire Red and Leaf Green remakes, which were the first ever in the series a few years later.

The first generation games only had 151 Pokemon compared to today’s number, which is over 1000. However, since these were the very first creatures that players were introduced to in the franchise, they hold a special place in their hearts. And with the Pokemon Yellow remakes, Let’s Go: Pikachu! and Let’s Go: Eevee selling over 14 million copies, a whole new generation has come to know these adorable critters.

Pokemon Fan Makes Incredible Yet Terrifying Groudon Pixel Art

Groudon, the dinosaur-like Legendary Pokemon, is featured in a piece of fan-made pixel art that is equal parts incredible and terrifying.

Over on the Pokemon subreddit, a fan artist going by the handle NekuDemon has posted pixel art creations of several Poison-type Pokemon from the first generation. The artwork artist’s ongoing project called the Poisondex Pixelart, where they are attempting to draw every Poison-type Pokemon. In this new post, the artist shared their designs of both the male and female Nidoran lines, with Nidoking’s purple and Nidoqueen’s blue sprites relaying the power that these pocket monsters hold, which has earned them spots as some of Giovanni’s strongest Pokemon. The next Pokemon revealed were Ekans and Arbok, whose purple and golden tones reinforced that they were critters who wielded poison effectively.

There were also Zubat and Golbat, whose wings the artist changed the color of by making them more red, which makes them stand out against the blue background. The following line NekuDemon tackled was the adorable Oddish family, including Gloom and Vileplume, with the latter wearing a broad smile while, apparently, mid-dance. The final set of pocket monsters that the artist made was Venonat and its evolution, Venomoth, which is currently one of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet’s best Poison-types.

NekuDemon’s post on the Pokemon subreddit was well-received, with other users complimenting the attention to detail that went into creating the pixel art. With the newer games becoming more 3D, pixel sprites are seemingly becoming a thing of the past in the Nintendo titles. However, talented Pokemon fan artists are keeping the old-school design alive and well by continuing to create their favorite critters in the style.
