Pidgey, Pidgeotto, and Pidgeot are the original birds of the Pokemon franchise, dating back to the first generation of games. The Pokemon's designs are made for bird lovers, resembling wrens, sparrows, waxwings, and chickadees all at once. Its name is derived from the word "pigeon" and the black markings around its eyes are said to be inspired by the falcon-like Egyptian deities Horus and Ra.

The Normal and Flying-type bird is often easy to catch and evolve in most Pokemon RPGs. A Pidgey can evolve into a Pidgeotto once it reaches level 18. As it levels up, trainers who care about stats often give it boosts for Attack and Speed and teach it physical moves like Aerial Ace, Fly, and U-Turn. There are a couple of things to keep in mind when evolving it from Pidgeotto to Pidgeot.

When Pidgeotto Evolves

Pidgeotto evolves into Pidgeot at level 36. No special items or conditions are needed. The Pokemon evolves naturally by leveling up. This is the final evolution of the line, so there is nowhere to go after this point outside of some titles that offer Mega forms.

In most games, Pidgeot can only be obtained through evolution and cannot be found in the wild. The only games where it can be found in the wild are in Let's Go Pikachu and Let's Go Eevee, where it can be found on a number of Routes, and on Route 10 in Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon (via Island Scan).

Exceptions To The Rule

In some Pokemon games, Pidgeot can only be obtained through trade rather than evolution. These games are Pokemon Ruby, Sapphire, Colosseum, Black, Black 2, White 2, Sun, and Moon.

There are also games where Pidgeot is simply unobtainable since it is not part of the region's Pokédex. These entries are Pokemon Sword and Shield and Pokemon Legends: Arceus.

Pidgeot Information

Pidgeot with wings spread.

Pidgeot is immune to Ground-type and Ghost-type moves due to its Flying and Normal-typing. It is also resistant to Grass and Bug-type moves. However, it is weak to Ice, Electric, and Rock-type moves.

Pidgeot's Speed stat is its highest, with Attack only being a little better than Special Attack (on average). However, Mega Pidgeot has a very strong Special Attack stat.

There are some recommended movesets for Pidgeot as well. Competitive players use different combinations. One idea is for a Mega Pidgeot to have a Timid nature with Hurricane, U-turn, Roost, and Heat Wave. Another is to have a regular Pidgeot with an Adamant nature and moves like U-turn, Return, Substitute, and Brave Bird. Some also use Pidgeots with a Jolly nature with moves like Fly, Steel Wing, Quick Attack, and Roost.

In short, there are a lot of different battle strategies a player can use with this Pokemon.
