Pokemon collection has been a staple of the series ever since its inception with the "gotta catch 'em all" slogan being synonymous with the Pokemon brand. Now that Pokemon has partnered with Oreo to make limited-edition cookies, the rarest Pokemon wafers are being resold on eBay for ridiculous prices.

There are 16 different Pokemon that are featured on the limited Oreo cookies and each has its own rarity. Mew is the rarest of the bunch as it's the only legendary Pokemon included in the set, causing those lucky enough to get a package containing a Mew to resell them online for collectors.

The prices for these rare Pokemon Oreos range greatly with some Mews being listed for $1,000 USD and others going for a mere $15. It's clear that the collectible Pokemon Oreo market hasn't quite sorted itself out yet with just how wide the range is for resellers. So far, there is a handful of Mews being sold for those ridiculously high prices, but one $1,000 cookie actually sold on September 12. It's possible that more will begin to sell as scarcity rises.

Although Mew might be the rarest Pokemon included in the Oreo promotion, it's just one of 16 fan-favorite monsters that are included in the set. The other Pokemon included are Pikachu, Jigglypuff, Dratini, Squirtle, Bulbasaur, Charmander, Lapras, Cyndaquil, Piplup, Rowlet, Pancham, Snivy, Sableye, Sandshrew, and Grookey.

It seems to make some sort of sense that Pokemon Oreos would be reselling for crazy prices as a lot of Pokemon merchandise has been on a similar trajectory. Pokemon Cards in particular have skyrocketed in price causing shortages across the world which have inspired more people to enter the market and scalp rare cards. This increase in demand has turned getting collectible Pokemon merchandise like cards and Oreos into a process not dissimilar to that of trying to obtain a PS5 or an Xbox Series X.

Rare gaming merchandise, in general, has seen a recent uptick in price as sealed copies of older games are selling for a lot of money. Recently, the world record for the most expensive video game was set at an auction by a buyer who purchased a sealed copy of the original Super Mario Bros. from 1985. As more and more of these types of purchases happen, it seems like the demand for and prices of gaming collectibles for things like Pokemon Oreos or sealed copies of older games continue to rise.
