Starting off today's Pokemon Direct, Nintendo made a new game announcement. Coming to the Nintendo Switch on March 6, 2020 will be Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX. It's not an entirely new game, but rather a remake of the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team and Blue Rescue Team titles released for the Game Boy Advance. The games have received a major visual overhaul, but Pokemon Mystery Dungeon fans will otherwise be very familiar with the game.

For those unfamiliar with Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, it's a series of games set in world inhabited solely by Pokemon. That means players will be taking on the role of Pikachu or other Pokemon favorites. Players will answer a series of questions at the start of the game, which will help determine which Pokemon they will play as. They'll then be able to choose another Pokemon to be their partner. 16 different Pokemon will be available to choose from.

After choosing their Pokemon, players will start receiving jobs to delve into Mystery Dungeons. Mystery Dungeons have randomized layouts, so ever adventure into one is new and surprising. Exploring Mystery Dungeons is required to complete jobs, which when completed will help players level up their rescue rank. This aspect of Pokemon Mystery Dungeon is completely unique compared to the more traditional Pokemon games.

Pokemon fans will be somewhat familiar with combat in Pokemon Mystery Dungeon. Inside a Mystery Dungeon, players will battle other Pokemon in turn-based combat. in some ways, combat is similar to the main series. Players will choose abilities, abilities have PP, and so on. However, battles now take place on grids and players will have to deal with movement in addition to the rock, paper, scissors of normal Pokemon combat.

Those who haven't played Pokemon Mystery Dungeon before, but are curious to see if it's the kind of game for them, there's a solution. Nintendo has released a demo for Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX and it's available to download on Nintendo Switch right now. The demo includes the first part of the full game. Save files for the demo can even be carried over to the full game, if players want. Those who pre-purchase the game can also preload starting today.
