Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX is a remake of the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team and Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Blue Rescue Team for the Nintendo Switch. Both these games launched back in 2005 for Nintendo DS and introduced a randomized dungeon crawler inside the Pokemon world. Players choose one of the provided Pokemon as their character and set out on a rescue operation across the entire world, saving different Pokemon trapped in difficult situations.

Similar to other Pokemon games, Pokemon in Mystery Dungeon DX also have special abilities, type-weaknesses, and of course, evolution. Evolution has been a core part of almost all Pokemon games out there, and it transforms a Pokemon into a more powerful form of itself. However, the evolution process in Mystery Dungeon DX is not as simple as the mainline games and players won’t be able to evolve their Pokemon at all during their first playthrough of the main story.

How Does Evolution Work in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon DX

In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon DX, players need to complete the main storyline before they can evolve the Pokemon in their Rescue Team. They can only evolve Pokemon at a time, and the Pokemon must be set as the team leader. In addition to that, each Pokemon also has to meet some specific requirements for its evolution which is similar to the mainline games. Some require special items like a Link Cable, Lunar Ribbon, Beauty Scarf, specific elemental stones, etc. in order to evolve.

How to Evolve Pokemon in Pokemon Mystery Dungeon DX

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon DX

Once the player completes the main story, they need to head over to the Whiscash Pond above the Pokemon Square. In order to evolve successfully, the Pokemon must be alone in the party, so players need to leave all other team members on stand by. The Luminous Cave will be available after players beat the main storyline and players will be able to send the lone Pokemon into the Luminous Cave to evolve them. If the Pokemon meets its evolution requirements, then it will evolve, if not then the cave will notify the player about what is required for the evolution.

Pokemon that evolve via Max Beauty stat require Beauty Scarf. (Feebas > Milotic)

Pokemon that evolve during the day require the Sun Ribbon. (Eevee > Espeon)

Pokemon that evolve during the night require the Moon Ribbon. (Eevee > Umbreon)

Pokemon that evolve via trading in mainline games require a Link Cable to evolve. (Alakazam, Golem, etc.)

Some Pokemon require the thunder stone, fire stone, or Water stone to evolve. (Pikachu requires the thunder stone to evolve into Raichu)
