The Pokemon Company revealed more about Pokemon Sword and Shield's Crown Tundra DLC yesterday, and released a music video celebrating characters from the nearly 25-year-old franchise. DeNA's mobile game Pokemon Masters has also made a name for itself by featuring trainers from almost every main game in the series, and today it added Sinnoh Region Gym Leader Volkner.

Volkner hails from Sunyshore City in Pokemon Diamond and Pearl, and lives up to his moniker of "The Eccentric Electrician" by constantly remodeling his gym in the original DS games. In the mobile game, recently renamed Pokemon Masters EX, he is a tech Sync Pair with the Electric-type Luxray that is able to create Electric Terrain and boost its allies. He can become a six-star Sync Pair, a new mechanic providing additional power gains and an alternate costume.

While players can scout Volkner through the gacha game's summoning system, they can also take on Pokemon Masters' new Story Event, which features the Gym Leader attempting to re-energize his friend Flint — member of the Sinnoh Elite Four. The narrative expands upon story beats from Pokemon Diamond and Pearl, and also gives users access to a new resource called five-star Scout Tickets that provide a free character once 30 are collected.

Pokemon Masters has recently hosted a number of events celebrating its first anniversary, including one that gave players Team Galactic Boss Cyrus and Palkia. This focus on characters from the popular Generation 4 games on DS is likely to be well received by fans who are waiting on series developers to announce highly-anticipated Pokemon Diamond and Pearl remakes.

Pokemon Masters EX is available now on Android and iOS.
