One talented Pokemon fan artist is reimagining Gen 3 Water and Grass-type Lotad, and its evolutions, as humans or gijinka. Gijinka is a term that roughly means humanization. Generally, it refers to the anthropomorphism of non-human characters and objects. In the world of Pokemon, it means turning pocket monsters into people. It remains a popular type of art among the community as these pieces take some serious artistic skill and demand quite a bit of creativity.

Ludicolo, Lotad's final evolution, is certainly a fan-favorite. Lotad was caught by Brock, and the evolutionary line was subsequently featured heavily in the anime for a while. Not to mention, Ludicolo has long been a solid competitive pocket monster, and it's still considered to be one of the best Pokemon for rain teams in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet due to its ability, Swift Swim, which doubles its speed stat when raining. Lotad, Lombre, and Ludicolo have been around since the days of Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire, but fans have probably never seen the creature quite how this artist is imagining it.

Reddit user and Pokemon fan artist endifi reimagined Lotad, Lombre, and Ludicolo as human characters and shared their designs with the community. The humanized versions, or gijinka, grow from a small chibi-stylized character in Letianhe the Lotad, to full-on adult anime characters, Dicola Runpa the Ludicolo and Tadow Runpa the Shiny Ludicolo. The middle form is the adolescent-looking Lombrea the Lombre. Reddit user endifi is well-versed in creating gijinka as the artist is constantly sharing their creations with the community. Just recently the fan artist showcased what Ghost-type Pokemon Mimikyu would look like as a human in celebration of Halloween.

When posting, endifi typically shares a fun anecdote about the piece or the Pokemon behind it. The artist states that, as a kid, they didn't know how to evolve Lotad and Lombre into Ludicolo as they couldn't "comprehend evolutionary stones that well." Interestingly enough, endifi felt as though Ludicolo looked "freaky," but they admit they have come around on the creature's design and have since found the Pokemon to be both "cute and hilarious."

The artist recently concluded their project to make gijinka for every Johto pocket monster, with their last piece being a human version of the mythical Pokemon Celebi. Now, endifi is on a mission to do the same thing for the Hoenn Pokedex. The last endeavor took the artist roughly two years to complete, so it will likely be a while before they can present a completed set of Gen 3 gijinka.
