First introduced in Pokemon X and Y, Mega Evolutions allow fully-evolved Pokemon to reach an even higher level of power. In the recently released Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu and Let's Go Eevee, Mega Evolutions make their Kanto region debut, though players will have to find the corresponding Mega Stones to mega evolve any of their Pokemon. Anyone that wants to play through the games completely blind should note that this article has some potential spoilers.

Most of the Mega Stones in Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu and Let's Go Eevee can be purchased from a salesman found in the Pokemon League lobby, wearing a Slowbro outfit. He will sell players Mega Stones for $30,000, allowing players to get the following stones and their corresponding Pokemon:

  • Aerodactylite
  • Alakazamite
  • Beedrillite
  • Gengarite
  • Gyaradosite
  • Kangaskhanite
  • Pidgeotite
  • Pinsirite
  • Slowbronite

Besides the Mega Stones and Pokemon listed above, all three starter Pokemon also have Mega Stones to collect, with Charizard actually having two. Players will receive these Mega Stones (Blastoisinite, Charizardite X, Charizardite Y, and Venusaurite) from Blue and Professor Oak after beating the seventh gym leader and prior to fighting in the Viridian City gym battle.

And finally, players can also get their hands on Mewtwonite X and Mewtwonite Y, which are used on the legendary Pokemon Mewtwo, as some may have guessed. These two Mega Stones are likely going to be the last that players collect in the game, as they're a reward for catching Mewtwo and beating the Pokemon trainer Green in battle. For those who don't know Mewtwo's location, he can be found in a cave near Cerulean City called Cerulean Cave, but it's only accessible after players have fought their way through the Pokemon League and have defeated the Elite Four.

Game Freak has definitely focused less on Mega Evolutions since the feature was introduced in Pokemon X and Y, but their inclusion in Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu and Let's Go Eevee confirms that they're still a core part of the franchise. It will be interesting to see if future Pokemon titles put more or less emphasis on Mega Evolutions, and what new Pokemon will get Mega Evolutions in the future.

Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu and Let's Go Eevee are out now, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
