During the 2024 Pokemon Presents livestream to celebrate Pokemon Day, The Pokemon Company revealed the next core Pokemon game coming to the Nintendo Switch. Dubbed 'Pokemon Legends: Z-A,' the title will more than likely follow a similar gameplay loop to 2022's Pokemon Legends: Arceus, in which players explore a semi-open-world taking place in the Sinnoh region, but in the far past.

Game Freak and The Pokemon Company did not disclose much information about Pokemon Legends: Z-A, so there are a lot of questions surrounding the 2025 title. We are still a ways away from the release, so we'll update this post with highly searched questions and give out answers for each one to hopefully help Poke fans out. Once more information comes out leading up to the launch, this page will have much more to check out, so be sure to return.

If there is to be another spinoff like Pokemon Legends: Arceus, then they may want to borrow some features from Scarlet & Violet.

Is Pokemon Legends: Z-A a Mainline Game?

Kinda?

While Pokemon Legends: Z-A will most likely introduce new Pokemon forms and a couple of new evolutions, this title is not pushing the series into a new generation and will not feature the traditional mechanics that the main series, like Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet, have. However, Game Freak seems to consider the Legends series core entries, even if they aren't pushing generations.

Is Pokemon Legends: Z-A a Remake?

No

Pokemon Legends: Z-A is not a remake. The game will take place entirely within Lumiose City within the Kalos region, which was first introduced in Pokemon X and Pokemon Y for the 3DS. There were leaks of a supposedly canceled third version of the pair of Gen 6 games titled Pokemon Z. This has led some fans to believe that this new Legends game is a sort of revival of that canceled third game, even if it's completely different, except for the location.

Is Pokemon Legends: Z-A Set in the Past or the Future?

Still Up in the Air

This is still up for debate, as The Pokemon Company did not state when Pokemon Legends: Z-A takes place. There's a good chance it takes place long before the events of Pokemon X and Y, with players needing to develop the city from scratch. But there's also a good shot that players will be rebuilding Lumiose City after the events of Pokemon X and Y. And from the futuristic vibe of the reveal trailer, it seems that the latter idea is what will happen.

Is Pokemon Legends: Z-A Multiplayer?

Most Likely

Game Freak did not go into the multiplayer details of Pokemon Legends: Z-A. However, if it's anything like Pokemon Legends: Arceus, it will have at least online Pokemon trading, but online battles are up in the air, as Arceus did not include them.

What are the Pokemon Legends: Z-A Starters?

Anything but Kalos/Legends: Arceus Starters

Pokemon Legends: Arceus had three starter Pokemon, and neither was actually from the region where the game takes place. There seems to be a good chance that not only will Pokemon Legends: Z-A include starter Pokemon from three different regions, but these Pokemon will probably get some new (hopefully) cool-looking forms specifically for this iteration of the Kalos region.
