Highlights

  • Pokemon Legends: Z-A may introduce another time traveler, following in the footsteps of Ingo from Pokemon Legends: Arceus.
  • The game will likely take place in the Kalos region and center around the construction of Lumiose City, with hints at a tragic storyline.
  • Dexio and Sina, assistants of Professor Sycamore, are perfect candidates for returning characters in Pokemon Legends: Z-A.

Pokemon Legends: Arceus, with its focus on the Hisui region inspired by feudal Japan, was a game all about the past. Players were introduced to many characters designed to be the ancestors of other characters in the series. However, there was one exception with Ingo, a time traveler hailing from Black and White. Considering the other similarities it may share with its predecessor, Pokemon Legends: Z-A has the potential to introduce another time traveler to the series.

There is still a lot up in the air about Pokemon Legends: Z-A, especially relating to its exact time period and subject matter. The most prevalent detail seems to be that the game will take place in the Kalos region, and revolve around the construction of Lumiose City. At first glance, Ingo's obscurity may seemingly make it difficult to predict who will follow in his footsteps, but there are still plenty of clues.

Pokemon Legends: Arceus' made one remarkable choice in its story that Pokemon Legends: Z-A will inevitably have a hard time following up.

Pokemon Legends: Z-A's Most Eligible Time Travelers

Ingo was such an obscure pick for Legends: Arceus because he was already a rather minor character in his home game, nowhere near as high profile as Pokemon's Gym Leaders. Likewise, he had no prior connection to the region he had been flung into. However, the player character was a time traveler as well, and Ingo was valuable as someone they could relate to. Ingo's story had an element of tragedy, and there's a prominent element of this tragedy that may be worth capitalizing on.

Continuing Ingo's Story after Pokemon Legends: Arceus

Ingo has lost most of his memories in Legends: Arceus, but he remembers one thing for sure: his brother Emmet. Though the circumstances behind Ingo's time traveling incident are somewhat unclear, Legends: Z-A could change that. Perhaps Ingo and Emmet were flung through a space-time distortion together, but came out in completely different eras, dropping Emmet in a futuristic Lumiose City. This would enhance the tragedy of their separation, and improve Ingo's story with a direct continuation.

Pokemon's Time Traveling Duo

If Pokemon Legends: Z-A wanted to follow up on a recent game other than Legends: Arceus, Scarlet and Violet would surely be next up on the plate. Scarlet and Violet had a rather prominent focus on time travel itself, especially thanks to the game's Pokemon Professors: Sada and Turo. Sada was obsessed with the creatures of ages long past, while Turo was obsessed with how Pokemon might evolve in the future.

Despite their differing focuses of study, both of them seem like great candidates, though, given their fate in Scarlet and Violet, players would have to meet them in their younger years. However, this would be an even better opportunity for fanservice, giving players the chance to see these characters in a whole new light.

Though Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's Professors are strong options, there is an even better duo to pull from. Rather than a pair of Pokemon Professors, Legends: Z-A could instead include a pair of Professor's assistants.

The Perfect Returning Characters For Pokemon Legends: Z-A

Dexio and Sina would be the perfect characters to return in Pokemon Legends: Z-A. Though their connection to the game's region would make them differ from Ingo, Sina and Dexio retain that element of surprise thanks to their minor role in the series. More importantly than their status as Kalos region natives, Dexio and Sina have a direct connection to Zygarde, Pokemon Legends: Z-A's presumed Legendary Pokemon.

Though Sina and Dexio originated in Pokemon X and Y as Professor Sycamore's lab assistants, they returned in Pokemon Sun and Moon on a special mission from their boss. Dexio and Sina were sent to investigate Zygarde, and promptly give the player an item called the Zygarde Cube to help in this mission. Though Zygarde seemingly lacks Arceus' godlike ability to send people across time, this wouldn't necessarily stop Dexio and Sina.

Rather than being sent by Zygarde, perhaps they were again sent by Sycamore, or more likely, they simply stumbled into a space-time distortion on their quest to understand Zygarde. Pokemon Legends: Z-A is just as likely to include a relative of Professor Sycamore, and having his descendant's assistants meet him could create another unique dynamic within the game's cast.

Pokemon Legends: Z-A may include distant relatives to known characters with a strong connection to the region, like Lumiose's Gym Leader Clemont. While relatives are a clear part of the Legends formula right now, perhaps time travel will be as well. In fact, another time traveler would be just the thing to continue the series trend of renewing interest in its characters through a whole new lens.
