A long-standing element of the Pokemon franchise is the presence of shiny Pokemon with rare color palettes, and though Pokemon Legends: Arceus changed up many aspects of the series, shiny Pokemon made it through. In fact, the game adjusted shiny catch rates to make encountering and capturing them easier – assuming players are careful and thorough in their search. One Pokemon Legends: Arceus player shares a short clip reminding other gamers why they should always check the trees.

Although most Pokemon can be encountered in caves, on water, or hiding in the ever-present tall grass, some Pokemon games allow players to encounter Pokemon through other methods. One of these methods is by spawning in a tree and requiring players to either interact with the tree or lure the Pokemon out with bait.

In Pokemon Legends: Arceus, players can throw Poke Balls at trees to startle concealed Pokemon into battle. However, this can be time-consuming, so some gamers may let things slip in favor of traversing the Hisui region quickly. Redditor ToughBacon shares a clip reminding players why they should always check the trees. In the video, ToughBacon is shown hurling a Poke Ball at one tree and startling a shiny Pokemon into the open.

The Pokemon that emerges is a shiny Heracross, a Bug-Fighting-type Pokemon that was introduced in the Gen 2 games. Although Heracross made its entrance in the Johto region, it--and many other classic Pokemon--can be found all around the fictional world now. Known as the Single Horn Pokemon, Heracross takes direct inspiration from the Japanese rhinoceros beetle, one of the species that Japanese children often captured in the wild. This could mean that Heracross is linked to the origins of the Pokemon franchise as a whole.

As of writing, it appears that other fans are impressed by ToughBacon's good luck. Although the clip doesn't show whether they captured the shiny Heracross, simply running across the creature is already a stroke of incredible fortune. Pokemon Legends: Arceus' Mass Outbreak mechanics may make finding shiny Pokemon easier, but these creatures are still a rare encounter. Several users declared that they were jealous, with one user complaining that the only Pokemon they seem to find in the trees is Burmy. They do note that Cherubi can be encountered in the Pachirisu area, however. A second user stated that they hoped ToughBacon caught the Heracross and didn't accidentally knock it out.

Pokemon Legends: Arceus is available now exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
