Within Pokemon Legends: Arceus, there are over 100 optional side missions known as Requests. Completing each of them isn't necessary to beat the main story, but players should take the time to work on them. Requests offer up rewards, and there's even a Request that gives players a free Pokemon. Most Requests involve completing a Pokedex entry, which can be simple but tedious if players don't know where to look. Request 53 is unlocked at the midway point of the game and requires the "help" of the Water-type Octillery.

Even if players don't want an Octillery on their team, they'll need to catch one in order to complete the final Story Mission in Pokemon Legends: Arceus. Thus, they may as well complete the optional Request 53. Players will need to get Octillery's Research Level to 10. Luckily, there's a quick way to do this.

Unlocking Request 53

Octillery can be found at the Cobalt Coastlands, which players will visit upon starting the Mission: The Lordless Land. However, simply unlocking Cobalt Coastlands isn't enough to unlock Request 53. Players will need to get the Ride Basculegion from Iscan. This can be done by working through The Lordless Land Mission.

There's one more requirement as well. Players will need to have completed Request 12: A Perfect Pickling Stone. This sidequest is available as soon as players gain access to all of the Obisidian Fieldlands. So, if players are diligent about doing side quests, there's a high chance they've already completed this Request by the time of visiting the Cobalt Coastlands. If not, here's a brief rundown:

  1. Visit the 2nd floor of the Galaxy Hall and speak to Radisa. She'll want you to catch a Geodude, which is quite easy. Geodude can be found as early as Deertrack Path in the Obisidian Fieldlands.
  2. Catch a Geodude, but keep in mind that players will be giving this Geodude to Radisa. Make sure to hand over a Geodude with meager stats/EVs and preferably one that isn't Shiny. Though if players don't really care, then the Geodude they "release" won't really matter.
  3. Mark the Request on the map to make it easier to find Radisa's house.
  4. Speak to Radisa to turn in the Request.

Once this is finished, and players have the Ride Basculegion, return to Jubilife Village. Radisa will have moved to the leftmost house by the Jubilife Gate. If she has a Request Icon over her head, then that means players will be able to start Request 53. This time, Radisa will want to see Octillery's completed Pokedex Entry.

To complete a Pokedex Entry in Legends: Arceus, players will need to complete a series of Research Tasks to get the Pokemon to Research Level 10. At this point, players should be familiar with the formula, so return to the Cobalt Coastlands after getting Request 53.

Completing Request 53

Research Tasks can be viewed by going into the Pokedex (right on the D-Pad) and tapping A over a Pokemon's icon. Some Research Tasks are marked with a red arrow, which means players will get two Research Points for completing one of the Task milestones.

For example, "Number caught" is one of Octillery's Research Tasks. Catching one Octillery would normally give one Research Point if the "Number caught" wasn't marked with the red arrow. Because it is marked with the red arrow, that means catching one Octillery will give two Research Points instead.

Here's a quick way to complete Octillery's Pokedex entry for Radisa:

Research Task

Red Arrows (i.e: double the research points)

Milestone/Times Completed

Number caught

Yes

1, 2, 4

Times you've seen it use Hyper Beam

Yes

1

Number of alpha specimens caught

Yes

1

As mentioned, Octillery can only be found in the Cobalt Coastlands. Specifically, players can find a group of Octillery on Islespy Shore while a level 46 Alpha Octillery roams the edge of Castaway Shore. The Alpha Octillery can be battled before players unlock the Ride Basculegion. Players hoping to catch the Alpha Octillery will need to be at Rank 4.

For those that do have the Ride Basculegion, swim around (or through) Veilstone Cape to the northmost part of the Cobalt Coastlands. There, players can find regular-sized Octillery at the tip of Islespy Shore and on the rocks where the male Basculin can be caught. Players can try using lures to distract the Octillery before catching it, or they can charge right in and battle.

Here's another way of getting Octillery's Pokedex Entry without catching the Alpha Octillery:

Research Task

Red Arrows (i.e: double the research points)

Milestone/Times Completed

Number caught

Yes

1

Number defeated

No

1, 2

Number you've defeated with Electric-type moves

No

1, 2

Times you've seen it use Hyper Beam

Yes

1, 3

Once players have farmed enough Research Points, they'll need to report to Professor Laventon to undo the final lock. With Octillery's Pokedex entry completed, players can now speak to Radisa at Jubilife Village to finish Request 53. As a reward, players will receive x5 Bean Cakes and x1 Exp. Candy M.

Bean Cakes are a type of lure/bait in Legends: Arceus. They're ideal when trying to catch fish Pokemon or bird Pokemon (such as the Water-type Piplup). Players can also buy the Bean Cake recipe from the Crafting Shop in Jubilife Village. Exp. Candy M is a stronger version of the Exp. Candy S. If a Pokemon is a low-level, then feeding them an Exp. Candy M may elevate their level by two or three.

Pokemon Legends: Arceus is available now on Nintendo Switch.
