The evolutionary items in Pokemon Legends Arceus are notoriously difficult to come across. Unlike the main Pokemon games, there aren't set locations for players to find evolutionary items like the Water Stone, Razor Claw, and Dubious Disc. This makes it difficult for players who want to use Pokemon that evolve by using evolutionary items, as it keeps them trapped in their second stage evolution until the player can happen upon the necessary item.

Luckily, there are a handful of methods that players can rotate between in order to obtain any of the evolutionary items, including the Protector. Here's how to find it and evolve Rhydon.

Where To Find Rhydon In Pokemon Legends Arceus

Players must first find a Rhydon in the wild if they want to evolve their Rhydon into Rhyperior. Rhydon can be found only in the Coronet Highlands, which is the fourth location to be unlocked in-game. There, players can find them on both the Celestica Trail and Sacred Plaza.

If players cannot find or successfully catch a Rhydon, its pre-evolution, Rhyhorn, can be found in several areas and are relatively common in Pokemon Legends Arceus. Rhyhorn can be found in both the Crimson Mirelands and Coronet Highlands, located on the Bolderoll Slopes, Diamond Heath, Shrouded Ruins, Celestica Trail, and Sacred Plaza. Rhyhorn evolves into Rhydon at level 42. Players can use the Protector to evolve their Rhydon into Rhyperior.

Where To Find The Protector In Pokemon Legends Arceus

There are four methods to find the Protector in Pokemon Legends Arceus. Some are more time-consuming than others, but all will aid players in their quest to find the Protector to evolve their Rhydon.

The first method is to use Ursaluna. When sniffing around for loot and hidden items while riding on Ursaluna, the Protector is among the items players can dig up. Although it's rare, it's possible to come across it with enough digging around.

The second is to look around for items in the Space-Time Distortions. The appearance of Space-Time Distortions is somewhat random, but if a player stays in one location, such as the Cobalt Coastlands, for a long enough time it's likely that at least one will pop up. Rare items, including evolutionary items, are scattered around the floor of the distortion, so it's possible that the player could come across a Protector.

The third is to buy the Protector from Ginter's Specials for 5000 Pokedollars. The evolutionary item will be listed as "Unwieldy Armor," rather than the "Protector." If the Protector isn't there when players check Ginter's shop, he'll reset his inventory with every 20 Pokemon that the player catches.

The fourth and final method is definitely the most effective in terms of quickly finding a Protector. The evolutionary item can be purchased from the Trading Post in Jubilife Village for 1400 MP. Players can farm MP by recovering Lost Satchels throughout the map.

How To Evolve Rhydon Into Rhyperior

A Rhyperior in an online battle in Sword & Shield

Evolutionary items work just as they would in any other Pokemon game, so it's a simple process to evolve Rhydon into Rhyperior. All players need to do is have the Protector in their inventory, and Rhydon in their party.

Once that step is completed, all they need to do is click on the Protector in their inventory, and next to Rhydon it should be listed as a "compatible" evolutionary item. Drag the Protector over to Rhydon, which will trigger the evolution sequence, leaving the players with a powerful, bulky Rhyperior.

Be warned, evolutionary items are single-use, so after the player uses the Protector to evolve their Rhydon, the Protector will disappear from their inventory. If the player wishes to evolve another Rhydon after using their only Protector, they must go through the process of finding one again.
