Pokemon Legends: Arceus has two types of quests for players to tackle. Missions help move the plot forward and take players to new destinations to quell the frenzied Noble Pokemon and discover the meaning behind the mysterious rift. On the other hand, Requests act as the game's side-quests and don't move the story forward. They are typically given to players by NPCs in Jubilife Village, but Requests can also be found in the wild.

This guide will specifically go over how to complete Request 24, called "Inspiration from Hippopotas." It can be started by speaking to Anthe, the woman at the clothing shop in the village. She will ask players to bring her two Hippopotas, a Ground-type Pokemon that resembles a Hippo. However, she will need to see one male and one female version of the Pokemon. Here's where to find Hippopotas in Pokemon Legends: Arceus, and how to tell if a Pokemon is male or a female.

Where to Find Hippopotas

hippopotas location pokemon legends arceus

Pokemon Legends: Arceus players have two locations to encounter some wild Hippopotas. The first place is Crimson Mirelands, which players will eventually get to by completing Missions. Look for Hippopotas in the Sludge Mound and Scarlet Bog habitats. Hippopotas can typically be found swimming around the small pools of muddy water, just west of the Bogbound Campsite. Their favorite foods are Honey, Grains, and Beans, so try to lure the Hippopotas away so that players can throw a Poke Ball at its back to get a better shot at catching it.

Hippopotas can also be found in the Coronet Highlands, specifically at Celestica Trail, but players won't unlock that area until further in the storyline.

How to Tell if a Pokemon is Male or Female

As for Hippopotas, players can tell apart the male and female versions by their unique coloration. The males have brown snouts, a cream-colored face, and brown coloring around their eyes. The female Hippopotas' have the opposite colors, with their "nostrils" being cream and their face being brown. Players can see both versions of the Pokemon in the image below. (The one on the left is male, and the one on the right is female).

Players can also see the gender of Pokemon in the wild by locking on to it with the left .trigger. Information on the Pokemon will appear in the bottom-left corner, showing the Pokemon's name, level, Research Level, and gender. If the gender symbol is blue, that means it's a male, and if it's red, it's female. This way, players can see the gender before wasting a Poke Ball.
