While Pokemon Legends: Arceus doesn't have the richest Pokedex in the series so far, it still does feature plenty of Pokemon species to catch and evolve throughout the Hisui region. Hisui is divided into smaller regions or main areas, which players unlock by progressing through the story, and some of them include rare Pokemon that are worth getting as soon as possible. One of the new Hisuian Pokemon lines in Pokemon Legends: Arceus is that of Goomy, which features Hisuian Sliggoo and Goodra, and this quick guide explains how to get them very early.

Updated June 22nd, 2022 by Russ Boswell: There are a lot of great Pokemon for players to choose from in Pokemon Legends: Arceus but not many are as strange and unique as Hisuian Goodra. The Steel and Dragon-type has a fun and intricate move set and some solid abilities that can help it stand up against some pretty powerful foes. Those that are looking to fill out their Pokemon Legends: Arceus team with a well-rounded Dragon should definitely consider this regional variant. To better showcase just what Hisuian Goodra is capable of in Pokemon Legends: Arceus, the following guide has been updated and now includes more information on where to find the creature and what types of abilities and stats it has.

How to Get Goomy and Hisuian Sliggoo Early

The Goomy line can be found as early as the Crimson Mirelands, which is the second sub-region in Pokemon Legends: Arceus. The Crimson Mirelands are quite complicated to navigate through the first time around, mostly because some areas are only accessible through the surf mechanic, which in this game comes from Basculegion, and the fact that there are small wooden bridges to close the gaps here and there.

Yet, players can get Goomy and Hisuian Sliggoo as soon as they start exploring the Crimson Mirelands, even though the area would where these Pokemon live would normally only be accessible via Basculegion. However, this area, which is called Holm of Trials, can be easily accessed by jumping over the river with Wyrdeer.

Players should find the spot with a tree near the water, and the other side of the land with a sloped surface. Then, they should head back a little with their Wyrdeer, start sprinting with it, and then jump when they are nearing the water.

The jump will most likely end up with the main character in the water, and while they cannot swim for a very long time, the speed boost and the jump achieved with Wyrdeer should be enough to allow players to get to the other side of the river safely. If not, they can try again without losing anything, as drowning is not considered blacking out in Pokemon Legends: Arceus.

Once on dry land, players can hop back on their Wyrdeer to speed through the Holm of Trials and reach the location where Goomy and Hisuian Sliggoo can be found. It's worth noting that the Hisuian Sliggoo will always be an alpha, and it will sit in the middle of a pond, around which players can catch plenty of Goomy.

Players can approach Goomy specimens from behind, quietly, and sneak up on them to catch them with a Poke Ball back strike. An alternative is to lure Goomy to a more isolated area around the pond with food, by throwing it at the ground. This can be quite useful for luring Goomy out of the water of the pond as well, where it can be overly complicated to land Poke Balls correctly.

Food and berries are also particularly helpful to lure Hisuian Sliggoo away from the middle of the pond into an area where players can more easily approach it, either by combat or trying to catch it.

The Hisuian Sliggoo in Holm of Trials will be level 50 when players find it, which means that it can also easily be evolved later on. Furthermore, it can be quite easy to best in combat and then catch if Pokemon Legends: Arceus players are leveling up fast, which they should do before approaching the Holm of Trials area with this trick because the Goomy specimens in there will also be level 30, give or take.

If players manage to catch the alpha Hisuian Sliggoo in Holm of Trials, they can evolve it into a Hisuian Goodra right away, but with a catch. Pokemon Legends: Arceus trainers don't need to have the Pokemon level up, but rather they have to wait for rain or thunderstorm to appear. This can be done by moving time forward at the camp, by resting until morning and then nightfall, until players are finally blessed with the desired weather conditions to evolve Hisuian Sliggoo into Goodra.

If players prefer to evolve a Goomy into Hisuian Sliggoo first, and then into Goodra, then they have to level up Goomy to level 40. After that, Hisuian Sliggoo can evolve into Hisuian Goodra in the aforementioned weather conditions, but the Sliggoo should also be level 50 or above.

There are a ton of great Pokemon to choose from in Pokemon Legends: Arceus. Players that want to craft a well-rounded team should definitely consider taking a look at Hisuian Goodra thanks to its Steel and Dragon-typing, which can help it effectively deal with Fairy-type Pokemon and other threats. It's a bit on the slower side, even compared to its traditional counterpart, but its well-rounded stats make it a threat for those that understand how to use its moves effectively. It also benefits from the Gooey Hidden Ability, which will cause other Pokemon to slow down when making contact with it. Diligent players can even snag one with the Overcoat ability, to protect it from Weather effects.

Sap Sipper will allow it to perform well against Grass-type Pokemon, which it also carries resistance to. It only has two real weaknesses in Fighting and Ground-types and is outright immune to Poison-based attacks. Hisuian Goodra can be an outright threat against opponents that don't know how to deal with its fairly unique typing and abilities.
