Steel-type Pokemon have traditionally been the weapon of choice for those looking for a combination of bulk and power. Like the alloy they represent, these behemoths are both sturdy and inflexible and are among some of the very strongest creatures found throughout Pokemon Legends: Arceus' Hisui region.

With the likes of Aegislash, Aggron, and Metagross not featuring in the game, however, those looking for the best Steel-types in Pokemon Legends: Arceus may need to take a few steps out of their comfort zone this time around. There's really nothing to worry about though, as, despite the many big-name absentees, there are still plenty of great Steel-type Pokemon just waiting to be caught.

Magnezone is perhaps a little slow for an Electric / Steel-type, though still boasts some of the trademark bulk associated with its secondary typing. The real star of the show is its 130 Special Attack stat, however, which, when combined with moves like Thunder and Flash Cannon, can make Magnezone incredibly deadly. It also boasts a whole smorgasbord of resistances and immunities, with Ground, Fighting, and Fire-type attacks its only major weaknesses. Due to its stat distribution, Magnezone works best with a Quiet nature.

How to Get Magnezone in Pokemon Legends: Arceus

Players can find Magnezone and its unevolved forms Magnemite and Magneton in space-time distortions in the Cobalt Coastlands region. Magnemite evolves into Magneton at Level 30 and Magneton can be evolved into Magnezone by taking the Pokemon to Mount Coronet in the Coronet Highlands region. Alternatively, players can use a Thunder Stone to evolve Magneton, but will first need to dig one up with Ursaluna or trade their Merit Points for one at the item exchange counter in Jubilife Village.

Empoleon's base stats might not seem all that impressive on paper, but, together with moves like Flash Cannon and Hydro Pump, the Water / Steel-type really can pack quite a punch. It's perhaps a little flimsier than some players would like it to be (especially for a Pokemon that will be acting second more often than not), but those looking for this particular type combination won't find a better candidate. Players who do opt for Empoleon should look for one with a Quiet nature.

How to Get Empoleon in Pokemon Legends: Arceus

Players can catch an Alpha Empoleon in the Islespy Shore area, which can be found in the northwestern part of the Cobalt Coastlands. Alternatively, they can catch its unevolved forms Piplup and Prinplup in the Spring Path area of the same region. Piplup evolves into Prinplup at Level 16 and Prinplup evolves into Empoleon at Level 36.

Being a Fire / Steel-type Legendary, Heatran is, perhaps unsurprisingly, one of the best Fire-types in Pokemon Legends: Arceus as well as one of the best Steel-types. It's an incredibly powerful Special attacker, and its 106 Defense and Special Defense stats allow it to take quite a bit of punishment providing its opponent isn't hitting weakness (Ground, Water, or Fighting). Like most other Steel-type Pokemon, Heatran is a little on the slow side, but this likely won't matter more often than not. The Pokemon is at its best when it has a Quiet nature.

How to Get Heatran in Pokemon Legends: Arceus

Players can catch Heatran fairly early on in Pokemon Legends: Arceus' post-game content. It can be found on Firespit Island in the Cobalt Coastlands region, but only after players have started story mission #22.

Hisuian Goodra is a little unlucky, as though the Pseudo-Legendary's stats are fairly well distributed, the fact that it isn't the only top-tier Dragon / Steel-type Pokemon really doesn't work in its favor. Of the two, it is definitely the more sturdy and has fairly decent attacking stats with which to back this up. Unfortunately, however, it's just not quite as versatile as the competition, even when it has its preferred Sassy nature.

How to Get Hisuian Goodra in Pokemon Legends: Arceus

Players can find an Alpha Hisuian Goodra during the Mesprit's Trial section of the main story and another roaming around in the Ancient Quarry area of the Coronet Highlands. Alternatively, they can evolve Hisuian Sliggoo from Level 50 onwards, though only while it's raining outside. Players can catch both Hisuian Sliggoo and its unevolved form Goomy in the Holm of Trials area of the Crimson Mirelands.

Given the huge stat discrepancy between Dialga and the other Steel-type Pokemon in Pokemon Legends: Arceus, it's perhaps unsurprising to see the Steel / Dragon-type Legendary coming out on top. The introduction of the Pokemon's new Origin Forme only widens the gap between it and the competition, with players now able to increase the Pokemon's already high Special Defense stat without having to sacrifice its status as a top-tier Special attacker. Put simply, when it comes to brute force and flexibility, no Steel-type Pokemon is better than Dialga. This is especially true when the Pokemon has a Modest or Quiet nature.

How to Get Dialga in Pokemon Legends: Arceus

Players are guaranteed to get Dialga as part of the game's main story, though when exactly they do so will depend on their choice during the Disaster Looming mission. If they choose Irida, they'll catch Dialga at the very end of the main story, while choosing Adaman will lead to them getting it a little earlier. To switch between Dialga's regular and Origin Formes, players will need the Adamant Crystal, which can be obtained by defeating Adaman near the Diamond Settlement in the Crimson Mirelands after completing the main story.

Pokemon Legends: Arceus is available now for the Nintendo Switch.
