Together with Bug-type Pokemon, Ice-types have traditionally been viewed as one of the metaphorical runts of the Pokemon litter, with very few benefits to including either type in one's team. That's not to say that they don't still serve their purposes here and there though, and this remains true in Pokemon Legends: Arceus.

RELATED: Pokemon Legends: Arceus - The Best Dark-Type Pokemon (& Where to Find Them)

Though nowhere near as effective as some of the game's more popular types, the best Ice-types in Pokemon Legends: Arceus can still do a job when called upon. Those looking to find them won't have to look too hard either, particularly once they've gained access to Hisui's ice-themed region, the Alabaster Icelands.

Mamoswine may be a lot flimsier than its vast size might otherwise suggest, but the Ice / Ground-type Pokemon still hits like a ton of bricks. This is all thanks to its 130 Attack stat, which allows the Pokemon to get the very best out of moves like High Horsepower and Icicle Crash. Mamoswine is best with a Naughty nature, which leads to an increase in the Pokemon's Attack stat at the expense of a little Special Defense.

How to Get Mamoswine in Pokemon Legends: Arceus

Players can find an Alpha Mamoswine in the Avalugg's Legacy area of the Alabaster Icelands. They can also find its unevolved forms Swinub and Piloswine there, as well as in the Bonechill Wastes and Avalanche Slope areas of the same region. Swinub evolves into Piloswine at Level 33 and Piloswine evolves into Mamoswine after learning Ancient Power at Level 34.

Despite the many layers of blubber, Walrein isn't a particularly sturdy Pokemon, though that's not to say that its defenses are bad. It should be able to stand up to all but the very heaviest of hitters and has a few little tricks hidden up its sleeves to improve its survival chances too. As an Ice / Water-type Pokemon, Walrein isn't weak to Fire-type attacks, while its Thick Fat ability reduces all damage taken from both Fire and Ice-type attacks by 50%. This gives it the edge over many of its Ice-type peers, particularly when Walrein has a Quiet nature.

How to Get Walrein in Pokemon Legends: Arceus

Players can find Walrein in both the Ginkgo Landing and Islespy Shore areas of the Cobalt Coastlands. Its unevolved forms Spheal and Sealeo can also be found in the Cobalt Coastlands region; the former in the Ginkgo Landing area and the latter in Islespy Shore. Spheal evolves into Sealeo at level 32 and Sealeo evolves into Walrein at Level 44.

Though not quite in glass cannon territory, Weavile definitely favors attack over defense. With this in mind, its 125 Speed stat is incredibly helpful and ensures that the Dark / Ice-type is acting first more often than not. It should be able to hold its own against Special Attack-focussed Pokemon if needed, but Weavile's strongest asset is its ability to wrap things up quickly. To increase its chances of doing so, players should try to find one with a Jolly nature.

How to Get Weavile in Pokemon Legends: Arceus

Players can catch Weavile inside space-time distortions in the Obsidian Fieldlands region, as well as its unevolved form Sneasel. Sneasel evolves into Weavile when exposed to a Razor Claw, but only during nighttime hours. Players can trade a Razor Claw for 1,400 Merit Points at the item exchange counter in Jubilife Village or dig one up using Ursaluna. It should also be noted that players will not be able to evolve a Hisuian Sneasel into a Weavile.

Those looking for a pure Ice-type Pokemon need look no further than Glaceon. The Gen 4 Eeveelution is a fantastic Special attacker and has solid enough defenses to back this up. Granted, it's not quite as sturdy as some of the other Ice-types in Pokemon Legends: Arceus, but the fact that both of its defensive stats are high rather than just one of them does make it a little more versatile. Glaceon is best with a Modest nature, which cuts its Attack in exchange for a higher Special Attack stat.

How to Get Glaceon in Pokemon Legends: Arceus

Players can only get Glaceon by evolving Eeevee, either by taking it to the Ice Rock in the tunnels beneath the Avalugg's Legacy area of the Alabaster Icelands or by exposing it to an Ice Stone. Ice Stones can be traded for Merit Points in Jubilife Village, found by destroying snow piles in the Alabaster Icelands, or dug up using Ursaluna. They also show up in space-time distortions from time to time, as too does Eevee. This isn't the only way to get an Eevee in Pokemon Legends: Arceus though, with the little fox Pokemon also spawning in the Horseshoe Plains area of the Obsidian Fieldlands and the Crossing Slope area of the Cobalt Coastlands.

Though not quite in Shuckle territory, Hisuain Avalugg's 184 Defense stat is incredibly impressive. No Pokemon in the Hisui region is quite as sturdy, making the Ice / Rock-type a solid pick for those looking to outlast the opposition. Providing it's not up against a Fighting or Steel-type Pokemon, Hisuian Avalugg's monstrous physical stats will likely give it the edge more often than not. It's also the only Pokemon with access to Mountain Gale, which is by far the best Physical Ice-type attack in the game. Hisuian Avalugg is best with an Impish nature.

How to Get Hisuian Avalugg in Pokemon Legends: Arceus

Players can find Hisuian Avalugg in the aptly-named Avalugg's Legacy Area of the Alabaster Icelands. Its unevolved form Bergmite can also be found there, as well as in the Glacier Terrace area of the same region. Bergmite evolves into Avalugg at Level 37.

Pokemon Legends: Arceus is available now for the Nintendo Switch.
