Despite serving as one of the series' three main starter types, Grass-type Pokemon are often seen as being a tier below their Water and Fire-type counterparts due in large to their many weaknesses. That's not to say that they're completely useless, however, as evidenced by some of the powerful Grass-type Pokemon found throughout Hisui in Pokemon Legends: Arceus.

While it's true that there aren't nearly as many viable options as there are for some of the more popular types like Psychic and Dragon, it's not all doom and gloom. There are still some incredibly impressive Grass-type Pokemon in Pokemon Legends: Arceus for those looking to incorporate one into their teams; the very best of which can be found below.

5 Leafeon

Some may prefer Torterra due to its dual-typing, but, when it comes to stats, Leafeon has the gentle giant beat. To be clear, they do both have the same 525 base stat total, but both rely on their high Attack and Defense stats and Leafeon has Torterra beat in each of these departments. It also boasts more resistances thanks to it being a pure Grass-type and is considerably faster to boot. With an Impish nature, the gap between the pair grows even wider still.

How to Get Leafeon in Pokemon Legends: Arceus

Players can catch themselves a Leafeon inside one of the space-time distortions that appear in the Obsidian Fieldlands area. Alternatively, they can evolve Eevee using a Leaf Stone, with the unevolved fox Pokemon showing up in space-time distortions right across Hisui. Leaf Stones can be found inside these distortions too, as well as being dug up by Ursaluna or traded for Merit Points at the item exchange in Jubilife Village. If they're really struggling to find one, players can instead take their Eevee to the Moss Rock in the southwest part of the Heartwood Area in the Obisidian Fieldlands.

4 Roserade

Roserade's 125 Special Attack stat is better than some Legendaries, and its Speed and Special Defense stats are more than respectable too. The Grass / Poison-type also has a lot of great moves at its disposal, with Petal Dance arguably being the pick of the bunch. Players should look for a Tangrowth with a Mild nature, though Modest is also a solid choice.

How to Get Roserade in Pokemon Legends: Arceus

Players can find Roserade in the Cloudpool Ridge area of the Crimson Mirelands. Alternatively, they can find its unevolved forms Budew and Roselia in the Fabled Spring area of the Coronet Highlands or in the Golden Lowlands and Gapejaw Bog regions of the Crimson Mirelands. Budew can be evolved into Roselia by leveling it up during the daytime with high friendship and Roselia can be evolved into Roserade using a Shiny Stone. As for where players can get their hands on these hard-to-find evolution stones, the exchange counter in Jubilife Village, space-time distortions, and digging for treasure with Ursaluna are all good places to start.

3 Hisuian Decidueye

Though Hisuian Decidueye is perhaps a little worse than its non-regional variant, it's still a decent pick for anyone who's looking to add a Grass-type to their team. Being a Grass / Fighting-type, it can stand up to some of the more popular types incredibly well, though, sadly, still gets trounced by Fire and Fighting-type attacks. It works best as a physical attacker, but its Special Attack stat is still high enough to make the most of powerful Grass-type moves like Leaf Storm if needed. As with the Pokemon's regular form, a Brave nature is best.

How to Get Hisuian Decidueye in Pokemon Legends: Arceus

Hisuian Decidueye is the final form of Rowlet; evolving from Dartrix at Level 34. Players can choose Rowlet as their starter Pokemon at the beginning of the game or get one by speaking to the professor after beating the final main story boss. Doing so will also cause Rowlet and its evolutions to begin appearing in space-time distortions, though only in the Coronet Highlands area.

2 Tangrowth

With four of its six stats sitting at one hundred or higher, Tangrowth is one of the most underrated Grass-type Pokemon in the entire franchise and easily the best pure Grass-type in Pokemon Legends: Arceus; excluding Legendaries, of course. It's an excellent attacker with a very high Defense stat, meaning that it will hold up well in most situations. A Relaxed nature is best for Tangrowth, but Lax, Quiet, and Rash can all work well depending on how players plan on using it.

How to Get Tangrowth in Pokemon Legends: Arceus

Tangrowth can be found wandering around in the Gapejaw bog area of the Crimson Mirelands, as too can its unevolved form, Tangela. The latter can also be found in the Crossing Slope area of the Cobalt Coastlands and will evolve into Tangrowth after learning Ancient Power at Level 34.

1 Shaymin

Shaymin's 600 base stat total helps to give it the edge over all of the other Grass-type options in Pokemon Legends: Arceus, but there's far more to the gen 4 mythical than just power. It's able to switch between two very different forms, each of which has its uses. Its Land Forme is incredibly well-balanced and is a pure Grass-Type, while its Sky-Forme is a speedy Grass / Flying-type that excels as a special attacker. This versatility can be incredibly useful, and makes Shaymin a must-have for all Pokemon Legends: Arceus players. Those who plan on using its Sky Forme really should be on the lookout for one with a Hasty nature though.

How to Get Shaymin in Pokemon Legends: Arceus

In order to catch Shaymin, players will need to have save data from either Pokemon Sword or Pokemon Shield on their Switch. Assuming they do, they'll get a special request after completing the main story and should then make their way over to the Fieldlands Camp in the Obsidian Fieldlands. Once there, they'll need to speak with Medi and then make their way to the Floaro Gardens area in the northwest part of the region to find and catch Shaymin. Medi will also give players the Gracidea key item, which can be used to switch between Shaymin's Land and Sky Formes.
