Bug is probably the least popular type in the entire Pokemon franchise. There aren't really too many good Bug-types available either, nor are there many advantages to the type itself when it comes to innate strengths and weaknesses. Even so, Pokemon Legends: Arceus players will probably want to have one on standby for those very rare situations in which bug-types can truly shine.

The massive cuts to the Pokedex really haven't helped when it comes to choices, but there are still a few good Bug-types available in the Hisui region. The best Bug-types in Pokemon Legends: Arceus all offer secondary types too, ensuring that their inclusion in a player's team isn't an entirely wasted spot.

It's a little strange that Scizor's base stat total is the same as Sycther's despite the Bug / Steel-type being a second-stage evolution. Scizor is quite a bit slower than its unevolved form too, though does boast much higher Attack and Defense stats. Aside from its weakness to fire (which actually gets worse) it's able to shed all of its other weaknesses upon evolving though does lose a few resistances and immunities in the process. It's a solid pick, but far from the best, even with its preferred Adamant nature.

How to Get Scizor in Pokemon Legends: Arceus

In order to get Scizor, players will need to evolve Scyther by exposing it to a Metal Coat. This rare evolution item can be traded for Merit Points in Jubilife Village or dug up with Ursaluna. Players can catch themselves a Scyther in the Grandtree Arena area of the Obsidian Fieldlands or in the Primeval Grotto area of the Coronet Highlands.

For a brief window a decade or two ago, Heracross was arguably the very best Bug-type in the Pokemon series. It's still within touching distance of the best today, but there are now better options out there. Still, for those looking for a hard-hitting Bug / Fighting-type and perhaps a little nostalgia trip, Heracross may be worth a look. Those who do go down this route should try to find one with an Adamant nature if they really want to get the best out of it.

How to Get Heracross in Pokemon Legends: Arceus

Players will be able to find an Alpha Heracross near the water in the Grueling Grove area of the Obsidian Fieldlands. Heracross can also be found hiding in trees in the Wayward Wood area of the Coronet Highlands from time to time.

Another Scyther evolution, Kleavor does at least see a slight boost to its base stat total, if only by five. Like Scizor, it also sacrifices speed for increased an increased Attack stat, though, thankfully, not quite as much of the former this time around. As a result, the Bug / Rock-type Pokemon is still relatively fast and so should get to act first from time to time. It is a bit more flimsy than Scizor, but lacks a weakness to Fire-type attacks; one of the most popular counters for bug-type Pokemon. Kleavor is best with an Adamant nature.

How to Get Kleavor in Pokemon Legends: Arceus

Kleavor evolves from Scyther after the latter is exposed to a piece of Black Augurite. This rare evolution item is sometimes dropped by Graveler and can also be dug up using Ursaluna. Players can catch Scyther in the Grandtree Arena area of the Obsidian Fieldlands as well as in the Primeval Grotto area of the Coronet Highlands.

Yanmega is one of very few Bug-type Pokemon that excels in the Special Attack department and also has a fairly decent Speed stat with which to back this up. This allows the Bug / Flying-type to utilize Bug Buzz, which is one of the best Bug-type attacks in the entire game. The fact that it also happens to be a Flying-type makes it an excellent counter for other Bug-type Pokemon, with most having either a two times or four times weakness to Flying-type attacks. Yanmega is best with a Rash nature.

How to Get Yanmega in Pokemon Legends: Arceus

Players can find Yanmega in the Droning Meadow area of the Crimson Mirelands and the Heavenward Lookout area of the Coronet Highlands. Its unevolved form Yanma can also be found in both locations, as well as in the Gapejaw Bog and Ursa's Ring areas of the Crimson Mirelands. Yanma evolves into Yanmega after learning Ancient Power at Level 34.

Unlikely though it may seem, Scyther managers to beat out both of its evolved forms thanks to its vastly superior base stat distribution. Rather than specializing in attack or defense, the Bug / Flying-type is able to do both and is also fairly well-equipped in the Speed department. With moves like X-Scissor and Aerial Ace in its locker, this cements Scyther's status as the best of a bad bunch, more so if players are able to find one with an Adamant nature.

How to Get Scyther in Pokemon Legends: Arceus

Scyther can be found in both the Grandtree Arena area of the Obsidian Fieldlands and the Primeval Grotto area of the Coronet Highlands.

Pokemon Legends: Arceus is available now for the Nintendo Switch.
