Sneaking around and capturing the wild pokemon in Pokemon Legends: Arceus easily builds up to be one of the best features in the new title. However, when things don't go as planned, this can lead to odd encounters with the wild pokemon where they either don't behave in exactly the way players might expect, or catch them off guard.

In a recent Reddit post by user OskarTinni, it can be seen that Pokemon Legends: Arceus player is caught in exactly that type of situation by a wild Hippowdown out in the field. Beyond the speed that the Hippowdown charges across the map, what happens when it finally comes face to face with the player makes for an awkward moment that is terrifying.

The short clip shows the player wandering around an area that is filled with Hippowdowns, with many of the pokemon minding their own business and keeping pretty much to themselves. That is until one of the Hippowdowns randomly starts charging across the area, appearing to have already started running from behind a large rock and stops right in front of the player. This whole situation ends before reaching another example of Pokemon Legends: Arceus' creatures attacking humans, and has the Hippowdown just stare at the player once up close and personal.

In response to the original post, fans have started gathering in the comments to chime in about how terrifying the charging Hippowdown was, and the way it turned to stare down the player. Others started sharing real-life facts about regular hippos, such as their 30-mile per hour running speed, which a few commented to be the terrifying sight they just saw in the video. Even without having the over three thousand pound mass of a regular hippo, that kind of speed makes a Hippowdown scarier in that moment than even Pokemon Legends: Arceus' ghost-type creatures.

The open-world aspect of Pokemon Legends: Arceus leaves itself susceptible to having different mechanics and features to mesh together awkwardly for encounters like this situation with the Hippowdown. However, it does make for entertaining moments and gives players chances to have those unique moments that most other players might not get that comes with the open-world genre. So far, this has garnered quite a bit of praise from fans for Pokemon Legends: Arceus, especially with how well it pushes forward on both old and new mechanics in this latest update to the original formula.

Pokemon Legends: Arceus is available now for Switch.
