Quick Links
Alpha Pokemon are a new species that was introduced in Pokemon Legends: Arceus. The first thing players will notice about Alpha Pokemon is that they're much larger, have red glowing eyes, and have access to moves that regular Pokemon may not have access to without the help of a tutor.
Alpha Pokemon are very aggressive, and even the most docile Bidoof will attack on sight if it's an Alpha. Catching Alphas aren't required to complete the main story, but they can be helpful in completing sidequests, or if players want a strong Pokemon on their team.
It's unknown if Alpha Pokemon will make an appearance outside Pokemon Legends: Arceus, but some fans are hoping this will be the case. Before calming the Noble Pokemon around Hisui, a very specific number of Alpha Pokemon will spawn in the wild. If players intend on catching any of them, then it's best they start leveling up their Galaxy Team Star Rank.
Obsidian Fieldlands Alpha Pokemon Locations
The Obsidian Fieldlands is the first area players will unlock. After navigating through the tutorial, they're given the chance to explore only a quarter of the Obsidian Fieldlands.
Once they've met Mai, they'll have their first introduction to Alpha Pokemon at the Heights Camp. Players will battle an Alpha Kricketune and can either catch it (requirement: Star Rank 2) or defeat it. No matter what they end up doing, the Mission will be marked Complete so long as they don't blackout.
It's at this point where players can go around catching Alpha Pokemon that are within their Star Rank. Here are the Alpha Pokemon spawn locations in correspondence with the above image. Note that some of these spawns will change depending on the weather:

Alabaster Icelands Alpha Pokemon Locations
The final map in Pokemon Legends: Arceus. There are some walls here that Sneasler won't be able to climb, meaning players will want to get Braviary from Sabi as soon as possible.
Start by doing the "Lord of the Tundra" Mission, and follow Sabi into Snowpoint Temple. Once she teaches how to summon Braviary, players will be able to go just about anywhere within bounds.
The Alabaster Icelands has some of the strongest Alpha Pokemon with Alpha Garchomp being at a level 85 - higher than most legendary. Make sure the Star Rank is at least Rank 7 before trying to catch the Alpha Pokemon in this area.

Spawning Other Alpha Pokemon
Once a Noble Pokemon has been quelled, Alpha Pokemon will start appearing more in that Noble Pokemon's region. This means never-before-seen Alpha Pokemon such as Alpha Wurmple will start spawning in Obsidian Fieldlands, Alpha Yanma in Crimson Mirelands, and so on.
Unlike the Alpha Pokemon that appeared before the Noble Pokemon was calmed, these Alphas' spawn rates are randomized, and they will disappear once the player leaves the area.
For example, if players want an Alpha Eevee, they'll need to do the following steps:
- Calm the Noble Pokemon (in this case, Kleavor).
- Return to the Obsidian Fieldlands.
- Check all areas where Eevees usually spawn.
- If Alpha Eevee isn't appearing, return to Jubilife Village, and then go back to the Fieldlands.
- Repeat this process until an Alpha spawns.
The easiest way to catch an Alpha Pokemon is by getting a Back Strike on it. Using Steal Sprays or Smoke Bombs makes it easier to sneak up on them. If players prefer to fight, try to circle around the Alpha Pokemon and throw a Pokemon at its back to get the first move in battle.
Pokemon Legends: Arceus is available now on Nintendo Switch.
