Yesterday's Pokemon Presents came with the third trailer for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, as well as a longer trailer that acted as a commentary for the various features and creatures introduced with Gen 9. One of the most interesting aspects of the games is the fact that Koraidon and Miraidon will have alternate forms to explore the Paldea region across seas, skies, land, and mountains, a system that fans will recognize from Pokemon Legends: Arceus. The trailer revealed a new regional variant in the form of Paldean Wooper, the first Ground/Poison hybrid since Generation 1's Nidoran family, a creature that will likely retain this type combo when it evolves.

Another new Pokemon shown in the third trailer is Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's Cetitan, a critter likely inspired by ancient whales, which used to have legs and arms. This creature is one of the Pokemon used by the Ice-type Gym Leader named Grusha in Gen 9, who made an appearance in the trailer alongside other major characters, such as Arven, Penny, Jacq, and Clavell. The remaining new Pokemon unveiled yesterday is a cute Fairty-type puppy by the name of Fidough.

A known leaker by the name of Riddler Khu had posted a hint to Fidough and its evolution several weeks ago, which consisted of the picture of a dog made of sliced bread. Although Fidough is made of some form of pastry blend, like the combination of the dog name "Fido" and "dough" suggests, it resembles doughnuts and bagels more than bread itself. In their recent tweets about Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's new puppy Pokemon, Khu states that Fidough's evolution will become "more delicious," likely meaning that the food it's based on will be a popular one.

Khu mentions that Fidough's evolution is toasted, which could mean that the Fairy Pokemon will add Fire to its existing type, becoming the first Fire/Fairy hybrid in the series. This is speculation at this stage, but a dough Pokemon does have a chance of becoming a pizza-like critter or some kind of savory bread roll. Either way, Fidough's lore entry on the official Pokemon Scarlet and Violet website does mention that the pocket monster tends to puff up when it needs to intimidate its opponents, which is a characteristic that could translate into a larger dog breed for its evolution.

The Pokemon Company seems willing to make more iconic critters with Generation 9, and it's possible other creative Pokemon designs will surface over time. For now, one of the rumored cross-gen evolutions seems to be for Dunsparce, a Gen 2 critter that many believed would turn into a more interesting creature. Recently, a Pokemon fan used an AI image generator for Dunsparce's evolution, giving it an unexpectedly disturbing look.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet launch on November 18 for Nintendo Switch.
