Pokemon fans think a new game could be coming to the long-running series in the near future. Job listings posted by Pokemon developer Game Freak have some people around the gaming community thinking that not only is a new installment coming, but it might be here in 2021.

The first Pokemon game released all the way back in 1996. Since then, innumerous of players have tried to "catch them all." In anticipation of 2021 being the 25th anniversary of that first release, the fanbase is seeing a flurry of job postings as a hint Game Freak is going to celebrate with a new title.

Earlier this month, the Pokemon developers posted several advertisements for short term job openings. Eagle-eyed fans saw these 12-month contracts were specifically for localization work translating Japanese to English. Those same fans postulated that a game like this entering the translation stage usually means development is close to wrapping up. That could match up with several Pokemon leaks accounts on social media that sprung into action in the last few weeks with rumors of a remake arriving next fall.

The game apparently attached to the job listings is said to just be one of several entries in the series arriving soon. Some hinted at, like a new Pokemon Snap game, have been long known to be on the horizon. Another potential 2021 arrival is the new Detective Pikachu game for the Nintendo Switch. That game was announced in May of 2019 but doesn't have an official release date yet. However, the accounts contended that even allowing for the two aforementioned Pokemon titles potentially releasing next year, there is still a big one slated for launch in November and it is expected to be a "main series" addition.

While some believe the newest Pokemon game could be a brand new main addition, others speculate the only way it could get finished by November is if it were a remake or graphical remaster of an existing property. There's also talk that the Pokemon developer routinely post these jobs only when it's relatively close to an official launch date. The last time this kind of warm-up happened, it foreshadowed a quick unveiling of the 2018 surprise games Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu & Eevee.

Even if past behavior tends to hint at an impending announcement, a job listing does not guarantee a new Pokemon game is anywhere near ready for release in 2021. It's also a possibility that news could come as soon as Thursday during the Pokemon GO Game Awards event.
