Pokémon fans rejoice as the Pokémon Company has a very enticing gift for you. In celebration of the ten-year anniversary of the release of Pokémon Gold and Silver, the company is going to be giving out a rare Pokémon as a token of their appreciation to fans. What Pokémon are they giving out you ask? Why, none other than the mind-bending psychic Mew.

Mew is one of the most iconic of the rare Pokémon. As the main foil in the plot of the first Pokémon movie, he should be familiar to fans both rookie and veteran. Any gamer who wants to pick up Mew need simply go to the Mystery Gift area in either HeartGold or SoulSilver whilst being logged into a Wi-Fi connection and pick Mew up.

Unfortunately, for those hoping to hold Mew as ransom, the downloaded Mew will come with a premier ribbon that prevents trading on the Global Trade Station. You can, however, still make local Nintendo DS trades, but who would want to give anyone but themselves an advantage? It would be much more satisfying to send Mew out to battle and laugh at the looks on your friends' faces than to share in Mew ownership.

We are still a ways away from the release of Pokémon Black and White in the American market and it’s eventual record-breaking sales numbers, but the Pokémon Company wants to ensure that if you have put down your copy of HeartGold or SoulSilver, you have an incentive to get back into the swing of things. Maybe you could even set yourself on a month long quest to find a shiny Pokémon.

I’m sure Pokémon fans out there have already logged into their Wi-Fi before continuing reading but if you are still with me, Mew is available now.

What would have been your choice of a gift Pokémon to celebrate the anniversary of Gold and Silver’s release? Or was Mew the perfect option?
