One creative Pokemon fan has designed an Electric-type version of Gyarados. The popular Gen 1 Pokemon is normally a Flying and Water-type, but the talented artist turned the design on its head with the reimagining. When it comes to Pokemon fan art, swapping types is a common practice. The exercise is popular as it often showcases familiar characters in completely unfamiliar ways. Not to mention, these designs are fun for both creatives and observers as fans are typically familiar with the initial design. Artists get to flex their creative muscles and the rest of the community gets to join in on the fun by getting a peek at the process.
Without a doubt, Gyarados is considered to be one of the best Water-type Pokemon of all time. Because of its distinction among the community, it is often the subject of many fan art pieces. Creative Pokemon gamers often imagine Gyarados with a different type or fused with another pocket monster entirely. The creature's epic design, impressive stats, and lore within the franchise set it apart as one tough Pokemon. Perhaps due to any one of these factors or a mixture of all of them, Gyarados remains an all-time favorite Pokemon that fans still can't get enough of. One artist, however, is sharing a piece showcasing the creature as it has never looked before.
Reddit user and Pokemon fan artist JJonnie is sharing their design of an Electric-type Gyarados. The fan-created creature aptly named "Gyaraboom," presumably referring to the sound thunder makes, looks like a dark purple storm cloud. Gyaraboom still maintains the same dragon-like head of the original design, but its body is coiled up to resemble a cloud with electricity protruding from just about every angle. It's hard to tell just by looking at the picture, but it's possible Gyaraboom could be even larger than Gyarados, one of the biggest Pokemon ever.
On top of illustrating impressive pieces like this, JJonnie typically writes up fun Pokedex entries for their fan-created Pokemon. Gyaraboom is no different as its entry states the Pokemon hides within storm clouds and produces rain and lighting using its body. Additionally, the artist shared a look at Gyaraboom's shiny variant, which features a light blue color. JJonnie has been actively posting pieces in the community, recently reimagining Dragonite as a Grass-type Pokemon. The talented artist is constantly turning Pokemon designs on their head by changing the type and creating unique creatures.
It's possible fans were initially supposed to get a new look at Gyarados in the latest games, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. There is evidence to suggest convergent forms of Gyarados and Magikarp were scrapped. Instead, these convergent forms reportedly went to Tentacool and Tentacruel in the forms of Toedscool and Toedscruel in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. Whether Gyarados and Magikarp's convergent forms will appear in future DLC remains to be seen, but at least talented artists like this are giving fans new ways to appreciate the popular Pokemon.
