Pokemon GO has announced a new event that will serve as Zygarde's debut. Pokemon GO's Pokedex keeps expanding each season as Niantic brings new critters to players. Although the augmented reality game's Pokedex is not yet complete, the game boasts progress of almost 80% as of the present date.

Of the nine generations of Pokemon games, Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, and Unova are the ones whose Pokedexes are already fully available in Pokemon GO. With that, players have a selection of little monsters available as starters from all these regions, Legendaries like Raikou, Kyogre, and Mewtwo, and even the Mythical Pokemon Shaymin. This year the game got even more debuts with Turtonator, Mega Sableye, and Mega Rayquaza's arrival in Pokemon GO.

Pokemon GO has announced the Blaze New Trails event that starts on July 21 at 10 AM and ends on July 24 at 8 PM local time. The highlight of this event is the debut of the Legendary Zygarde, one of the strongest Gen 6 Pokemon. Zygarde will be available in the Special Research story From A to Zygarde in its 10% Forme, which is when the Pokemon takes on a form similar to that of a small dog. The event will also increase encounters in the wild for Growlithe, Ponyta, Doduo, Lillipup, Blitzle, and Yungoos, with Pokemon GO players able to encounter their shiny variants. Players who hatch 7km eggs can get Rockruff, Skwovet, and Falinks, which will also have a shiny chance.

The Blaze New Trails event also celebrates the introduction of Pokemon GO's new Routes feature, bringing one of the classic mechanics of the main series to Niantic's game. With this, the event encourages Pokemon GO players to share their favorite locations in their communities and discover other trainers' favorite places. In the Blaze New Trails event, players can earn Buddy Candy faster when exploring Routes with a Buddy and have an increased chance of finding shiny Yungoos. While exploring the Routes, players can also collect Zygarde Cells to change Zygarde's form.

Zygarde's debut expands the list of Legendary and Mythical Pokemon available in Pokemon GO. The arrival of the Dragon/Ground-type being linked to the debut of Routes is a clever decision from Niantic, as it will serve as a potential incentive for Pokemon GO players to explore the new feature and have a new experience of playing Pokemon GO.

Pokemon GO is available for Android and iOS.
