Pokemon GO's map of Pokestops and Gyms was originally almost an identical port of the points of interest from Niantic's prior game, Ingress, but the world has changed a lot since the mobile AR experience launched. New Pokestops and Gyms have arrived and some old classics have been removed. As both games, and Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, continue to grow, Niantic has opened up more opportunities for high-level players to have a say in what spots should become new points of interest on the map.

Earlier this year the new Wayfarer tool rolled out and offered power users the chance to submit, edit, and review potential points of interest. This was incredibly exciting news for Pokemon GO fans, but so far the features have been limited to just the highest level players. Anyone who has spent time in PoGO knows that the grind to level 40 is pretty painful and requires a ton of dedication to the time. Luckily, Niantic is starting to slowly lower the level requirements for select Wayfarer features. It's not much of a chance, but it's better than nothing.

The new update to the Wayfarer system was announced this weekend and opens up POI nominations and edits to level 39 Pokemon GO players and level 11 Ingress players. Again, not a massive change, but considering how long it takes to make it from level 39 to level 40, this should still impact a ton of players and provide a big influx of users for Wayfarer.

Submitting Wayspot Edits

Players can submit suggested edits to existing Wayspots for review within Wayfarer:

Level 8 in Ingress Prime - Level 8 grants access to edit text and images; location editing is unlocked at level 12. Learn how to submit a portal edit here.

Level 40 in Pokémon GO*

Submitting Wayspot Nominations

Players can nominate new Wayspots for review and manage their nominations on the Wayfarer website:

Level 10 in Ingress Prime - Tap the Nomination button in Ingress Prime's Main Menu.

Level 40 in Pokémon GO* - Learn how to submit a Pokéstop nomination here.

Reviewing Wayspot Nominations and Edits

Players can visit the Wayfarer website to review Wayspot nominations and edits. In addition to level requirements, players must also pass a quiz to show that they understand Niantic’s Wayspot acceptance criteria:

For now, players may want to keep hunting down the best Unova Pokemon in the game if improving their Battle Raid rosters is their primary goal. Be sure to check back in the near future for more Pokemon GO strategy guides, news, and updates. Until then, good luck out there, trainers!
