One of the main ways that Niantic has kept Pokemon GO fans engaged with the game over the years is through regular events that feature special bonuses, rewards, and new Pokemon to catch. Pokemon GO has regularly been adding new Pokemon through the ongoing Season of Alola, itself featuring multiple special events each month. The next big Pokemon GO event is the 2022 Water Festival, scheduled to begin on Thursday, May 12 at 10:00am local time until Friday, May 20 at 8:00pm local time.

The Pokemon GO Water Festival 2022 event will see the debut of Generation 7 Pokemon Dewpider in Pokemon GO. Dewpider is a water/bug-type Pokemon, and if players manage to get 50 Dewpider candy, they can evolve it into Araquanid. Besides Dewpider and Araquanid, Pokemon GO players will also have the opportunity to catch a special Lapras while the Water Festival event is live, with this version of the popular water/ice-type Pokemon wearing a scarf.

Another addition for the Pokemon GO Water Festival 2022 event is shiny Binacle. While the regular form of Binacle has been available in Pokemon GO for quite some time, this is the first time that players have been able to catch its shiny variant in the popular augmented reality mobile game. By extension, this means that Binacle's evolved form Barbaracle will also have its shiny variant appearing in the game.

Meanwhile, Pokemon GO players can also participate in a Global Challenge while the event is live. From May 11 at 1:00pm PT until Saturday, May 21 at 1:00am PT, Pokemon GO players are tasked with catching a total of 600,000,000 water-type Pokemon. If they are successful, they will get double candy for catching Pokemon throughout the Water Festival event. This should make it very easy for Pokemon GO players to get enough candy to evolve Dewpider to Araquanid, to say the least.

While all this is going on, there should be plenty more for Pokemon GO players to do. A Poni Adventure Special Research is now available in the game, plus Tapu Fini is now appearing in Pokemon GO legendary raids. Between the new Special Research to complete, the chance to catch Tapu Fini, and the all the Water Festival activities that will be available, May 2022 should turn out to be one of the busiest months for Pokemon GO players this year.

Next month, Pokemon GO fans can look forward to Pokemon GO Fest, so the new content should keep coming at a steady pace.

Pokemon GO is out now for iOS and Android mobile devices.
