Vivillon, Scatterbug, and Spewpa were made available in Pokemon GO during the Season of Mythical Wishes, and they are here to stay. With eighteen types of Vivillon to get, the process of collecting each form can seem daunting.

Combined with the unique (and somewhat confusing) way of acquiring all eighteen forms, Vivillon becomes one of the biggest challenges in the game. Here is a helpful guide to getting Scatterbug, Spewpa, and each Regional Form of Vivillon.

How To Get Scatterbug and Spewpa In Pokemon GO

The first step to getting every Vivillon Pattern in Pokemon GO is to catch its pre-evolution, Scatterbug. Neither Scatterbug nor Spewpa can be caught in the wild, but with a process unique to this evolution line. This process will be explained in more detail later, as it is crucial to get the Scatterbug that matches the type of Vivillon wanted.

What is important to know, is that Scatterbug requires 25 Vivillon Candies to evolve into Spewpa, and Spewpa requires 100 Vivillon Candies to evolve into Vivillon. Doing some quick math, that looks like 2250 total Vivillon Candy for one of each Vivillon pattern. It is definitely only a challenge for diehard Vivillon fans.

Tips For Farming Vivillon Candy

  • Use Pinap Berries: Using a Pinap Berry (or a Silver Pinap Berry) doubles the amount of candy the player gets from each encounter - typically turning three into six.
  • Buddy up with Scatterbug: Having Scatterbug as a Buddy Pokemon is a great way to farm candy - specifically because it earns one candy per 1km walked. This is a significantly shorter distance than most Pokemon need to earn candy - including Spewpa and Vivillon.
  • Bank Scatterbug Encounters: When a Scatterbug encounter is unlocked, it does not have to be used immediately. Saving Scatterbug encounters for certain Community Days and Spotlight Hours increases the chances of getting an XL candy, and can increase the amount of candy per catch.
  • Save Rare Candies: Rare Candies are a relatively new feature in Pokemon GO, though they work similarly to how they do in the main series games. They can be used in place of any Pokemon's candy. Rare Candies can be farmed through Mission Research, Field Research, Battling, and Battle Training.

How To Get Every Vivillon Pattern In Pokemon GO

Vivillon is tied to the gift and postcard mechanic. Getting each Vivillon pattern is going to take a lot of time, work, and friends. Luckily, there are ways built into the game that help Trainers keep track of everything they need. Some of the regions are quite confusing, as they have some overlap. There are two ways for a player to find out which region they are in.

The easiest way is to go to the bag, pin an unsent gift, and see which Vivillon Collection Medal updates. The second way is also relatively simple. Above all the Vivillon Collection Medals is a magnifying glass, and clicking on it brings up a map of Earth with each pattern mapped onto each Region.

Pinning Postcards

In order to get a Scatterbug tied to a specific region, the player has to pin three postcards from that region. Once three postcards are pinned, the game triggers a Scatterbug encounter (which can be banked in order to maximize candy drops). It is important to pin each gift before opening it, as it can not be pinned afterward.

In total, the player will need to pin fifty-four postcards in order to collect each Vivillon pattern. One gift can be sent per day, but twenty can be opened in a day, and they can be stacked for opening the following day. Each trainer can also have up to four hundred friends, so collecting the gifts should not be a problem.

Vivillon Collection Medals

In order to help the trainer track their progress, there are Vivillon Collection Medals for each region. Once a postcard is pinned, the Vivillon Collection Medal for the region the postcard is from will update, so trainers can keep track of how many postcards are needed to collect any specific Vivillon Pattern in Pokemon GO.
