Niantic and The Pokemon Company appear to be hinting at the long-awaited arrival of the Master Ball item in Pokemon GO. The Master Ball item would allow Pokemon GO players to easily catch any Pokemon of their choosing while traveling to PokeStops, gyms, and raid locations.
Despite the impending shutdown of the Silph Road community, official support for Pokemon GO continues nearly seven years after the game's launch. Millions of players return to Pokemon GO each month to participate in monthly raids and events, including the recurring Community Day event. Pokemon GO still has room to improve with new features and items, and Niantic may be preparing for a major event involving the Master Ball.
The official Pokemon GO Instagram account posted a teaser that hints at the debut of the Master Ball for an upcoming event. The teaser image depicts all Poke Balls that are available for use in Pokemon GO with the only exception being the Master Ball itself. Moreover, the Instagram account states that something new is in development, further implying that the Master Ball may be coming soon to Pokemon GO. Currently, Pokemon GO players have access to Poke Balls, Great Balls, Ultra Balls, Premier Balls, and Beast Balls. These in-game items may be acquired by opening gifts, completing research tasks, and visiting PokeStops in Pokemon GO.
Recent datamines for Pokemon GO revealed the existence of a Master Ball container within the game's files, fueling speculation about the potential debut of Master Balls. However, Niantic and The Pokemon Company did not confirm any official details about the Master Ball container. While awaiting new information, some users have suggested that Master Balls may arrive with a new event or a Special Research Story due to the container's unique animation.
The Master Ball teaser might imply that Niantic is preparing to introduce powerful Pokemon into Pokemon GO that would warrant a capture by using the powerful item. In traditional Pokemon titles like Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, Master Balls are a great asset while attempting to capture Legendary Pokemon. Master Balls are useful toward ensuring the successful capture of elusive Shiny Pokemon as well.
Pokemon GO players could leverage the use of Master Balls in an upcoming Legendary Pokemon event, but nothing has been directly confirmed by Niantic and The Pokemon Company just yet. Season 10 of Pokemon GO lasts until June 1, and players still have a few more events to participate in before Season 11 arrives. Pokemon GO's May 2023 Community Day event begins on May 21, and another new event is expected to arrive before the end of the month.
