Ever since the Fairy type first debuted in the mobile app
Pokemon GO,
fans have been clamoring for Sylveon, the Fairy-type evolution of Eevee. Sylveon was not added during the first round of Fairy-type debuts, which included Swirlix and Spritzee, their evolutions Slurpuff and Aromatisse, and the Goomy evolution line. However, it seems that fans will not have to wait much longer for Sylveon to make its long-awaited
Pokemon GO
appearance.
The app recently hosted the
Luminous Legends X event
, which celebrated the sixth generation game
Pokemon X.
The event included special research focused around defeating Team GO Rocket members and catching Fairy-type Pokemon as well as the appearance of Legendary Pokemon Xerneas in five-star Raid Battles. Fans were hoping for a follow-up event, which was recently confirmed by developer Niantic.
On Twitter, Niantic announced the Luminous Legends Y event, which will celebrate
Pokemon Y.
Xerneas' counterpart, the Legendary Pokemon Yveltal, will be appearing in five-star Raid Battles. The event will kick off on Tuesday, May 18, and will run through Monday, May 24. Like its predecessor, Luminous Legends Y will include special limited-time research tasks centered around the sixth generation of
Pokemon

Pokemon Go.
Sylveon will be available beginning on May 25. Trainers can obtain a Sylveon by setting an Eevee as their buddy and earning hearts together with Eevee. If the Eevee becomes happy enough, it will evolve into Sylveon.Players can also evolve one Sylveon for free by
giving an Eevee a specific nickname
, which is currently suspected to be "Kira." Eevee will be appearing more frequently in the wild so that Trainers who do not currently own one can catch this adorable Pokemon. In addition, Sylveon-themed clothing will be added to the in-game Store for players to purchase using Coins. Dark-type Pokemon will appear more frequently in the wild. Players will be able to hatch Pancham from Strange Eggs, which can be earned by defeating Team GO Rocket Leaders. Research tasks centered around defeating Team GO Rocket Grunts can lead to encounters with the Galarian form of Zigzagoon, which can ultimately evolve into the powerful Obstagoon. Finally, Spritzee and Swirlix will continue to appear in increased numbers and can be hatched from 7 kilometer eggs.Alongside the previous Luminous Legends X event, players were challenged to catch 500 million Fairy-type Pokemon within seven days. Trainers completed the challenge, and as a result, the
Shiny version of Galarian Ponyta was added to the game
. The challenge for Luminous Legends Y has been announced: players must defeat 25 million Team GO Rocket Grunts between May 15 and May 23. The reward will be the addition of Shiny Galarian Zigzagoon to the game as well as a limited time 3x Catch Experience bonus.Other upcoming Pokemon GO events include May's Community Day, which will be taking place on Saturday, May 15.
Swablu will be the featured Pokemon
, and players will have an increased chance of encountering a shiny Swablu in the wild.
