Kyogre, Groudon, and Rayquaza have all come and gone this summer and now it is finally time for Suicune to return to Pokemon GO Legendary Battle Raids. Suicune is a very PvE relevant creature in the PoGO metagame, so the Tier 5 battles are going to be incredibly popular while this option is available for a few hours on August 17. It can be a tough fight for players who aren't prepared, so trainers should take a minute to make sure they have the best counters powered up and ready.

Suicune initially appeared in Pokemon GO raids about two years ago, during one of the first Legendary rotations. That means that there are a lot of new Pokemon, evolutions, and movesets available now and the strategy for the Raid has changed quite a bit. For players who still have an older roster saved, we thought it would be a good idea to post an update with the current best counters available. Especially since this one includes some surprising best matchups.

Suicune Raid Battle

Before the upcoming August 17 Legendary Raid event, players will want to revisit their Water- counters and spend some Candy and Stardust to get the best team prepared. Electric- and Grass-types are going to be strongest here, so hopefully you spent some time this year powering up at least a few Magnezones and Electivires.

Best Suicune Counters

Raikou -Thunder Shock, Wild Charge

Magnezone - Spark, Wild Charge

Electivire - Thunder Shock, Wild Charge

Zapdos - Thunder Shock, Thunderbolt

Tangrowth - Vine Whip, Solar Beam

Luxray - Spark,  Wild Charge

Sceptile - Fury Cutter, Frenzy Plant

Roserade - Razor Leaf, Grass Knot

Mewtwo - Psycho Cut, Thunderbolt

The biggest changes since Suicune's early Raid days will be the addition of Magnezones, Tangrowth, and Electivires. Those are all some strong newer options for players who want to take their roster a notch from the old strategy of high IV Raikou and Zapdos glass cannon armies. Be sure to keep in mind that this raid rotation does have a chance for a shiny, so there's some extra motivation to get out and battle during the couple of hours that Suicune is available.

Be sure to check back in the coming days for even more Pokemon GO news, updates, and strategy guides. Until then, good luck out there, trainers!

Pokemon GO is currently available in select regions on Android and iOS devices.
