The World of Wonders season of Pokemon GO will make new legendary Pokemon available to catch on the mobile platform. This new story will not require a Shadow Raid in order to catch the legendary native to the Hoenn region.

The current season of Pokemon GO lasts from Friday, March 1, 2024, at 10 AM to Saturday, June 1, 2024, at 9:59 AM Local Time. Trainers will recognize the tasks of catching Pokemon, spinning PokeStops, and successful throwing styles as requirements to complete the limited-time quests. Rewards available during this event can help trainers immensely in their ongoing journey to catch 'em all.

Pokemon GO Fans Are Angry About Upcoming Zarude Special Research Event

Pokemon GO is bringing back its Zarude Special Research event that initially ran in 2021, and players are not happy about the way it'll be conducted.

Pokemon GO confirms Shadow Groudon as the Pokemon to be saved from Giovanni in World of Wonders. This separate event will kick off World of Wonders: Taken Over, the next limited set of Special Research stories for Pokemon GO. The leader of Team GO Rocket will face down trainers who have completed all tasks in the Save Shadow Groudon story. Trainers must defeat Shadow Groudon to earn the chance to capture it. World of Wonders: Taken Over can be accessed from March 27, 2024, at 12:00 AM to Sunday, March 31, 2024, at 11:59 PM local time, but Save Shadow Groudon can be claimed throughout the duration of the World of Wonders season.

Shadow Groudon in Pokemon GO

  • Special Research story available starting March 27
  • Receive Super Rocket Radar upon completion
  • Special Research can be claimed up to the end of Pokemon GO: World of Wonders on June 1

In addition to the Special Research tasks, a new trainer avatar will be available to purchase during World of Wonders: Taken Over, and following the event's conclusion. To spruce them up, trainers can still access the Pokemon GO's Year of the Dragon outfit at no additional cost. Other paid content includes event-exclusive Timed Research that pits trainers against more Team GO Rocket Grunts for special rewards, including a Pawniard encounter.

More Pokemon are going to be available during the five-day event. Shadow Raids will give trainers the chance to capture shiny versions of Drowzee, Poliwag, and Sneasel. As well, Shadow Mewtwo will make an appearance during the last two days of the event, from Saturday, March 30, 2024, to Sunday, March 31, 2024, local time. This Shadow Mewtwo replaces Shadow Raikou in 5-star Shadow Raids and also has the chance of a shiny encounter in Pokemon GO.

In addition, trainers can use the event to acquire items such as Charged TMs, Mysterious Components, Super Incubators, and Rocket Radars. Although this will force some other seasonal encounters to be put aside temporarily, Shadow Raikou will return to Pokemon GO when World of Wonders: Taken Over ends.
