Pokemon GO announced a new event with the return of a Legendary Pokemon and an interesting mechanic. In Pokemon GO players can find a wide variety of Pokemon. But to master Niantic's game, it's necessary to learn some mechanics that affect which Pokemon are possible to find.

An example of a mechanic related to the spawn of Pokemon available in Pokemon GO is biomes. Biomes define which type of Pokemon is more likely to appear in a particular area, resulting in region-exclusive Pokemon. Another well-known factor that influences the spawn rate in Pokemon GO is the weather. Each weather condition affects which Pokemon players can see, such as Fire-type more likely to appear on sunny days. The weather condition can also give caught Pokemon boosted moves.

Pokemon GO announced the Solstice Horizons event, which starts on June 16 at 10 am and ends on June 25 at 10 pm local time. The event will have a day and night cycle defining the Pokemon available, with critters like Drifloon, Leydba, and Purrloin appearing during the day. During the night players will find Pokemon like Spinarak, Phantump, and Oddish. The event will have a free Special Research reward with the encounter of the Legendary Pokemon Cosmog, which returns to the game after debuting in Pokemon GO last year.

In the Solstice Horizons event, Pokemon GO players will earn 2x Stardust when catching Pokemon and will see Solrock and Lunatone in the wild regardless of region. Normally in Pokemon GO, Solrock appears only in the West, while Lunatone is exclusive to the East. The event will feature one- and three-star Raids, five-star Raids with Rock/Poison-type Nihilego, and Mega Raids with Mega Sceptile. The Grass-type Formantis will be available as a Field Research and Collection Challenge reward, and players will see Team GO Rocket returning to Pokemon GO. With that, Solstice Horizons will feature Special Research with Shadow Regirock and encounters with Shadow Pokemon like Geodude and Hitmontop. Players who hatch 12km eggs during the event can get Pokemon like Scraggy, Panchan, and Inkay.

The day and night cycle is a major element of the Pokemon franchise since Pokemon Gold and Silver. Day and night also influence Pokemon GO, making it easier to find certain Pokemon only at night. These mechanics are fun gimmicks that add a layer of strategy to Pokemon GO and increase engagement with the game.
