A new addition to the Pokemon GO Battle League roster, the Single-Type cup focuses on, as expected, Pokemon that are only one type. For example: a single-type Grass Pokemon like Bulbasaur would be viable, but its Grass/Poison-type evolutions would not be. This eliminates a lot of the current meta, leaving Pokemon GO players confused about how to go about team-building. This guide walks the player through building a great team for the Single-Type Cup, which lasts a week longer than typical cups.

How to Enter the Single-Type Cup in Pokemon GO

There are no special requirements to enter the Single-Type Cup in Pokemon GO. Head on over to the Battle sub-menu under the main Pokeball menu, select the Cup, select Basic or Premium rewards, choose a party, and get battling.

• Great League rules, meaning no Pokemon above 1500CP
• Only Pokemon with one type can enter
• Cresselia and Deoxys (Defense) are banned

When Does the Single-Type Cup Start and End?

The Single-Type Cup lasts a week longer than standard cups, giving players lots of time to rank up. It starts on June 22, 2023, at 1 PM PT / 4 PM ET / 8 PM GMT, and ends two weeks later at the same time on July 6.

Best Pokemon for the Single-Type Cup

Access to specific Pokemon in Pokemon GO can vary significantly from player to player. It depends on a number of factors including mobility, location, and time spent playing the game. For this reason, it is easier to recommend individual Pokemon than specific teams. Keep these Pokemon in mind when building a team for the Single-Type Cup.

Machamp

Machamp is one of the best Fighting-types in the game right now. Trainers considering this Pokemon (as they absolutely should) can rely on its spammy Fast Move that charges Charged Moves quickly, its ability to do massive damage to five different types, and the shield pressure it can put on opponents. It's a bit of a glass canon, however, and will depend on shields to avoid damage.

Vigoroth

Dedicated players can lean on meta favorite Vigoroth for this cup. The middle evolution of the Slakoth line boasts a spammy Fast Move, provides excellent shield pressure, and can hit a variety of types thanks to its access to moves of varied types. It sees key losses to Dragonair, Ninetales, and Hypno - so be sure to switch out where possible.

Wobbuffet

Psychic monotype Wobbuffet does surprisingly well in the Single-Type cup as a serious threat to Vigoroth, Haxorus, and Machamp. While it doesn't do a great job applying shield pressure, it can take a lot of hits thanks to its bulk. Its access to a wide variety of moves is also a huge plus.

Haxorus

Haxorus breaks into the meta as a powerful monotype Dragon Pokemon in the Single-Type Cup. It deals significant Fast Move damage quickly, meaning it can spam Charged Moves and apply shield pressure, too. Like Machamp, however, Haxorus is a glass cannon, so they might not function well on a team together.

Falinks

Falinks is another great pure FIghting-type Pokemon that can serve as an alternative to Machamp. With spammy, dynamic moves, Falinks makes up for a lack of bulk with fast move pressure and strong shield pressure. Its fast animation means it can deal damage to opponents more efficiently.
