Pokemon GO's Lunar New Year event is officially underway, but that isn't the only bit of excitement going on in the mobile AR game. In addition to taking advantage of those bonuses and special spawns, players who open a Mystery Box between today and early March have a chance to encounter a shiny version of the new Pokemon, Meltan.

Meltan is a great choice for a new shiny, considering the popularity of the new Pokemon. It may not be the most meta-relevant fighter in the game, but it certainly gets plenty of play and is still popular thanks to its novelty. Since this is a brand new shiny to the game, trainers will want to know what to keep an eye out for when opening their upcoming Mystery Boxes...

Although Pokemon GO's Meltan and Melmetal are not absolutely crucial to a successful meta-game PvP and Battle Raid strategy, the shiny will still be good trade bait since some members of the community can't get enough shiny creatures. Collecting shiny Pokemon doesn’t give the trainer any kind of advantage in battle, but it is still a fun additional challenge to add into the game. Shiny Pokemon are perfect for leaving in Gyms to show off to the rest of the community.
