Pokemon GOTour Johto doesn’t kick off until late February, but it’s not too early for players to start looking ahead at all of the exciting bonuses and features that are going to arrive with the big event. In addition to all of the other excitement, collectors may be happy to find out that there will be a dozen new shiny Pokemon up for grabs throughout the weekend.

Shiny Pokemon don’t feel quite as rare in Pokemon GO as they do in mainline Pokemon games, but that hasn’t made them any less popular. Collecting shiny spawns is one of the most popular activities in the mobile AR game and those chases help drive up event participation each month. GO Tour Johto is a particularly special event and ticket holders who are trying to complete their shiny dex are going to have a lot of motivation to spend the full weekend in the game.

As confirmed in the original announcement, players should consider which shiny Pokemon are most important to them as they select their ticket for the event. The tickets include a lot of benefits, including early access to some Timed Research if players pick them up sooner than later. Exciting opportunities to pick up the Hoppip and Remoraid family are just the tip of the iceberg during the actual event though. There are a lot of new exciting shiny Pokemon up for grabs, including the always popular Corsola (whose original shiny debut was cancelled early in the pandemic) and others.

“All Pokémon originally discovered in the Johto region will be available in their Shiny forms, some of them for the first time in Pokémon GO! This includes the featured Unown (G, O, T, U, R, and J) which will appear when using incense. In addition, you’ll be more likely to encounter certain Shiny Pokémon in the wild depending on the event version you selected.”

There’s still a lot of time to get ready for the event, but the deadline has already passed to pick up the January Timed Research. Not to worry though, players can still purchase the pass by Thursday, February 10, 2022 local time, to get only the February Timed Research. The exact tasks and details about that chain of quests should be revealed sometime closer to its launch. Players should learn much more about exact details of other activities throughout the coming days of the Season of Heritage. Be sure to check back in the near future for more Pokemon GO strategy guides, news, and updates. Until then, good luck out there, trainers!
