Pokemon GO's August Community Day starring Magikarp has only recently ended. However, Niantic has announced the four contenders for the subject of next month's Community Day. In order to decide the next Community Day subject, fans will have the chance to vote on which Pokemon they want to catch next.

This isn't the first time Pokemon GO players got to vote on their Community Day subject. Just earlier this year in May, players were able to vote on the subject of the June 2020 and July 2020 Community Days. This resulted in June's Community Day being focused on Weedle and July's being focused on Gastly.

While voting for September's Community Day hasn't begun as of yet, all of the Pokemon involved are originally from the Kanto region. It is unknown if this has any additional meaning, but none of the Pokemon up for voting has been a Community Day subject before.

According to the official Pokemon GO twitter page, the four Pokemon that players can vote for as the subject of September 2020's Community Day are:

  • Caterpie
  • Grimer
  • Porygon
  • Charmander

All of these Pokemon could have reasonable cases made for them on why they should be in the next Community Day. In Caterpie's case, it would be the perfect counterpart to the Weedle Community Day that occurred earlier in the year. This would also allow players to get a Butterfree with a special move that could only be obtainable during this event.

For Grimer, both Kantonian and Alolan Grimer might be roaming the world, allowing for more variance within the Community Day without diluting players' candy collections. As mentioned with Butterfree, it will also give Muk a special move to use from the event.

Porygon having a Community Day would be incredibly special for this Pokemon. Not only would it allow for Porygon to have its shiny form put into Pokemon GO, but all of its evolutions will also have their shiny forms as well. Additionally, the timed research events for this Community Day would likely allow getting the items required to evolve Porygon and Porygon2 to become a much easier process overall.

Finally, Charmander is a fan favorite Pokemon of many. Despite this, it is the only Kanto starter to not get a Community Day devoted to it. Considering the upcoming Mega Evolution mechanic coming to Pokemon GO, getting access to a special move for Charizard might prove to be changing for the competitive community in Pokemon GO.

Each and every one of these Pokemon have a reasonable case, so it's up to personal preference on what to vote for once voting is opened.
