The widely-played augmented reality game Pokemon GO is currently being review bombed by people that are upset about the changes made to the game's Avatar system. Pokemon GO Avatars are the visual representation of players in the game. Players are able to create their own Avatar and then further customize them with cosmetics that are either earned in-game or purchased from the shop using in-game currency.

Pokemon GO Avatars have remained largely unchanged since the game's launch in 2016. However, Avatar changes are part of a big push from Niantic to encourage people to "rediscover" Pokemon GO. The idea behind the changes was to give players more options when it comes to customizing their Avatar in Pokemon GO, allowing for more body types, skin tones, and hair colors than ever before, but the changes have not gone over well, to say the least.

Pokemon GO Players Stuck on 6-Year-Old Quest Should Keep an Eye on April 22

It seems that many fans of the augmented reality mobile game Pokemon GO are stuck on a 6-year-old Special Research quest.

While Niantic may have had good intentions with the Pokemon GO Avatar update, an unfortunate side effect is that many players are not happy with how their characters look in the game now. It seems many Pokemon GO players preferred how their Avatars looked pre-update, and they have taken to social media, app stores, and review aggregate sites to let their grievances be heard. New 1-star reviews are popping up on the app stores for Pokemon GO on both Android and iOS devices, while 0/10 scores have hit the game's Metacritic page. There have been calls on Reddit encouraging Pokemon GO players to continue flooding the game with 1-star reviews in an attempt to get Niantic to revert the changes made to the game's Avatars.

This is far from the first time that Niantic has made a controversial Pokemon GO change, and if history is any indication, it's unlikely that the developer will walk back the changes. As some may recall, Niantic added restrictions to Remote Raid Passes in Pokemon GO despite vocal complaints from the community, and it didn't budge. Now, there may be improvements made to the new Avatar system to address some of the feedback, but fans shouldn't hold their breath that the old-school Avatars are ever going to make a comeback.

The Pokemon GO Rediscover campaign has a few more stops, and it will be interesting to see how the community reacts to the other changes that are in the pipeline for the game. April 22 will kick off the the "Rediscover Your World" and "Rediscover Kanto" events, which will see more graphical changes to Pokemon GO as well as the return of Kanto region Pokemon. The final update is coming May 7, titled "Rediscover Your Reality," though it's unclear exactly what that will entail just yet.
