As the last few days of the Johto Festival continue, Pokemon GO players around the world are out hunting down Gen 2 Pokemon and completing as much of the Celebi quest as possible. Although that should be the main event in place until it wraps up on August 28, it seems like the next event accidentally kicked off early this morning.

Starting on August 29, the Pokemon GO Safari Zone will trigger some special spawns in Yokosuka, Japan and worldwide. One of the worldwide bonuses of this upcoming event is the introduction of shiny Wingull. According to some players, the game seems to have jumped the gun on that launch this morning.

Here's a look at one of the screenshots floating around from a player who encountered and caught a shiny Wingull a full three days before the event kicks off...

Between August 29 and September 2 Wingull is scheduled to appear more frequently around the world as its shiny form makes a debut. Clearly that change seems to have happened a little early. That said, it seems like Niantic may have noticed the mistake and undid the change after just an hour or so.

Players in Japan reported seeing tons of Gen 3 spawns this morning, indicating that the Safari Zone event may have fired ahead of schedule. According to those reports, the spawns disappeared after just an hour or so and returned to the Gen 2 spawns. This seems to indicate that the shiny Wingull may also no longer be available.
