  • Pokemon GO players are upset over not receiving the promised Poliwag Community Day bonus, including the 50% reduction in Stardust while trading.
  • Niantic's lack of communication and previous incidents with missing event bonuses is frustrating the Pokemon GO community.
  • Niantic will hopefully address the issue quickly and offer compensation to rebuild good will with players.

Pokemon GO players are upset after not receiving the Poliwag Community Day bonus that was originally promised by developer Niantic. In Pokemon GO, Poliwag is the featured Pokemon for July 2023 Community Day event, which allows players to catch the Pokemon and take advantage of reduced item costs for a limited time.

Every month, Pokemon GO hosts Community Day events that highlight a particular Pokemon and its evolutions. The July 2023 Community Day event lets players easily catch first generation Water-type Poliwag, and the Pokemon's shiny appearance rate is drastically increased. However, players only have a limited window to take advantage of the appearance rate increase for Poliwag. The event is available on July 30 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. local time, giving players just three hours to catch Poliwag and evolve it to Poliwrath with exclusive moves. Afterward, Pokemon GO players may prepare for a special Poliwhirl raid event from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. local time.

Pokemon GO players aren't pleased with the Poliwag Community Day event since the 50% reduction to Stardust while trading was not active. Niantic promised players that the trading cost reduction would be active from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. local time on Poliwag Community Day, but players such as swanny246 and Upstairs_Ganache_625 observed that the Stardust cost remained at 100 instead of 50. Some Pokemon GO players in Australia, Guam, and Malaysia also note that they did not receive the additional Special Trade while participating in Community Day.

Normally, event bonuses for Pokemon GO Community Day events include reduced trading costs, additional Special Trades and XL Candy, double Candy for catching Pokemon. Most bonuses are only available during the three-hour window for Community Day events, while the Special Trade and trading reduction bonuses typically last from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m.

The Pokemon GO community's frustration for these missing bonuses stems from Niantic's lack of communication and prior incidents. Previous Pokemon GO Community Day events also faced similar issues with players reporting missing event bonuses and login rewards. This particular issue appears to be a common occurrence in Pokemon GO, reflecting poorly on Niantic once again.

Niantic may want to address the situation quickly and offer compensation for Pokemon GO players who can't take advantage of the login bonuses. Rebuilding good will between Niantic and the Pokemon GO community may be beneficial for future events alongside updates with substantial bug fixes. The problematic launch of Pokemon GO's Routes feature is still fresh on many players' minds, so Niantic has plenty of issues to address within the game this year.

Pokemon GO is available now for Android and iOS.
