  • The player caught a shiny Zigzagoon and Lechonk within the same 24-hour period, despite the odds of finding them without leaving home being extremely low.

One Pokemon GO player is showing off a pair of remarkable shiny Pokemon finds that they caught without even leaving the house. Pokemon GO has had gamers up and moving in order to collect new creatures, defeat gyms, and complete various tasks, but this player didn't even have to walk out the front door to capture their latest rare pocket monsters.

For those who aren't aware, shiny Pokemon are simply rare color variants. While the encounter rates differ from game to game, standard Pokemon in Pokemon GO have a 1/500 chance of being shiny. These odds are often altered for Community Days or special events for specific Pokemon, but they're still pretty rare nonetheless. For example, Pokemon GO's October Community Day Pokemon is Timburr, giving players a better chance to capture the shiny version of that Pokemon. The odds of catching a full-odds shiny Pokemon without getting off the couch, however, are probably much lower.

Reddit user DanIsNotUrMan shared their shiny Zigzagoon and Lechonk with the community – both of which they captured in their own home. Even more amazingly, they caught them within the same 24-hour period. The player admits that the stats for both Pokemon aren't the best, but they're still pretty rare all things considered. Also, there are some benefits to keeping even 0-star Pokemon in Pokemon GO.

Pokemon GO introduced Gen 9 Pokemon only recently, so Lechonk is a newer find. Unlike some shinies in the game, however, both Lechonk and Zigzagoon feature drastically different color palettes than their respective original forms. This isn't always the case, as some shiny Pokemon can be more or less indistinguishable from their normal color scheme.

While shiny Pokemon are among some of the rarest creatures available in the game, the rarest shinies in Pokemon GO are even more infrequently encountered. Neither Zigzagoon nor Lechonk fall into that category, but the odds of finding both within 24 hours and without leaving the home are pretty astronomical.

Even years after the release of the mobile game, Pokemon GO remains a popular title for many fans thanks to all the updates that Niantic and company introduce on a steady basis as well as the improved shiny odds as compared to other games. With the ability to move these creatures between games thanks to the Home app, duplications of shinies aren't necessarily trapped in Pokemon GO either. Regardless of where they end up, it's always a good feeling for a fan to capture a shiny Pokemon.

Pokemon GO is available now for iOS and Android mobile devices.
