Pokemon GO has teased that a new and highly anticipated multiplayer feature will soon be coming to the game. The game took the world by storm when it was released back in 2016 by giving players the experience of what it would be like to be a Pokemon trainer in real life. Fans of the series could not only capture Pokemon but also become towering gym leaders that others could challenge.

At launch, players were limited in how they could interact with each other in the game, with raiding and gyms being primarily the main way to do so. Eventually, Niantic updated the game to include a friends list, which opened up a host of new co-op features, such as trading Pokemon with said friends and even sending postcards and gifts. Niantic also added the GO Battle League, where players could test their skills and Pokemon against each other through an online matchmaking system.

The Pokemon GO Twitter account posted a 15-second teaser announcing the arrival of Party Play, an all-new multiplayer feature coming to the game. The short video opens up with a gift box and four phones x-raying it to reveal the silhouettes of four of the in-game avatars. In addition to today’s teaser, the account posted a picture of the shadows of four trainers standing next to a gym with a raid egg yesterday, which suggests that up to four players can team up.

While there is no official release date or more information about the addition of this latest update to the game, dataminers leaked Party Play back in September. The leakers shared screenshots and a video with information indicating that players will be able to choose who they share their avatar and location with while journeying together to take on Raids and Routes.

The developer has been rolling out new features in the game, with Routes and Shadow Raids being added earlier this year. In addition, Niantic steadily hosts events in Pokemon GO, with the latest being a crossover for the new Detective Pikachu Returns Switch game and the Ticket of Treats Halloween event. While most events like these are designed for single players, the introduction of Party Play could add an entirely new layer to gameplay, exciting fans.

Pokemon GO is available on Android and iOS.
