Players in Pokemon GO have been challenging members of Team GO Rocket this week for Pokemon GO's GO Fest Battle Challenges. One opportunity that's offered to players in this event is the chance to fight and defeat Team GO Rocket's Leader: Giovanni.

While some players may not expect much from Giovanni if they've only fought off Team GO Rocket's grunts, he is absolutely no pushover. Other than other players in Pokemon GO's PVP scene, Giovanni may be the most difficult trainer that players have faced in the game.

One of the Pokemon that can possibly appear in Giovanni's party is the Pokemon, Nidoking. This dual poison and ground-type Pokemon can catch some players off guard if they don't know what to expect.

Pokemon Nidoking

Nidoking is the third evolutionary stage of male Nidoran and the evolution of Nidorino. Normally in the mainline games a moonstone is required to evolve Nidorino into Nidoking, but this method is done away with in Pokemon GO.

As Nidoking is a dual poison and ground-type, it can be tricky to figure out what its weaknesses are. However, Nidoking is weak to four different types, those being ground, water, psychic, and ice. However, it also resists fighting, poison, rock, bug, fairy, and electric moves.

While Nidoking will be difficult to deal with quickly, some fast moves that would prove to be helpful against it include:

  • Ice Shard
  • Waterfall
  • Mud Slap
  • Zen Headbutt
  • Extrasensory

After enough power has been built up, charge moves will prove to be extremely important during the battle. The following charge moves are recommended:

  • Earthquake
  • Psystrike
  • Blizzard
  • Hydro Canon

Due to Nidoking's typing, players need to be careful about what kind of Pokemon they'd want to bring that holds a defensive chance against it. The following Pokemon should be well capable of holding the fort while whittling down Nidoking's health:

While it will definitely prove to be a tough fight, defeating Giovanni is very worth it, as his defeat will reward players with the chance to rescue Shadow Suicune, one of the three legendary dog Pokemon.
